The BBC has announced a groundbreaking addition to Strictly Come Dancing to make the show more accessible to all audiences. For the first time, live signing will be available on BBC iPlayer and the red button, along with audio description and subtitling. This move comes as Love Island's deaf star Tasha Ghouri joins the cast.

Embracing Inclusivity

Tasha Ghouri, who has worked with the Department of Education to make British Sign Language a GCSE subject, will bring a new level of inclusivity to the show. Strictly's new initiative will be present during various episodes, including the live Saturday night shows, Sunday results shows, the launch episode, the Christmas special, and the upcoming 20th-anniversary programme.

Kate Phillips, Director of Unscripted at BBC, expressed her excitement about the increased accessibility of the show, stating that it aligns with the series' commitment to inclusivity and representation. She highlighted the importance of providing multiple options for the audience to enjoy the glamour of Strictly Come Dancing.

Focus on Safety and Welfare

Additionally, BBC boss Charlotte Moore shared insights into the new safety measures implemented on the show, following concerns raised by incidents involving dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima. Moore revealed that separate welfare officers have been assigned to celebrities and dancers to ensure confidentiality and provide a safe space for addressing any complaints.
