Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Reverend Richard Coles recently revealed that he has undergone spinal surgery. The beloved TV star and retired vicar, aged 61, shared a picture of his legs in compression stockings before the procedure.
Surprised fans send well wishes
Richard Coles' followers on Twitter were taken aback to see him in the hospital but sent him their best regards. One fan wrote, "Good luck, I hope everything goes well and you will soon be feeling much better." Another said, "Good luck with whatever is being fixed." A third posted, "I didn't know surgery was on the cards. My very best wishes to you."
A successful procedure and a sense of humor
Thankfully, everything went well with Richard's surgery, and he soon updated his followers from his recovery room. In a playful nod to the late Michael Jackson's reliance on powerful medication, Richard joked, "Well, I totally get the thing Michael Jackson had for Propofol. Felt a tad woozy next thing I knew I was in recovery with an upgraded spine (not illustrated) having a lovely dream about dirigibles."
Love and new beginnings
Richard Coles, who was on Strictly in 2017, experienced the loss of his partner Reverend David Coles three and a half years ago due to alcoholism. This year, Richard turned to the dating site Elite Singles and found love again. Richard explained, "I wanted to go on a website where I would meet someone who was not looking for a sugar daddy, who was my age, who lived in my sort of world, who I could share my life with." He revealed that his new relationship is with 58-year-old Dickie Cant, son of the late actor and Play Away presenter Brian Cant. The pair had their first date at a Royal Horticultural Society and have been happily together ever since.
According to Richard, his new love interest isn't bothered by his fame, and he, in turn, isn't bothered by Dickie's atheism.
