STRICTLY fans were left in hysterics after John Whaite’s friend declared to the studio ‘I’m wet!’ following his latest performance.
The former GBBO winner danced an incredible Charleston routine with pro partner Johannes Radebe on Saturday night.
After impressing the judges, the men went up to chat to Claudia Winkleman about their performance, and the presenter asked John about his local pub.
The 32-year-old said his favourite watering hole had recently got a TV installed so his pals could watch him on the show, before Claudia revealed they had the punters ready via video link to speak to him.
Right at the front was Shirley, who had been a dinner lady at John’s school and had made him remove his fake tan with a scourer when he was a pupil.
Claudia asked Shirley what she thought of John’s routine and she exclaimed: “Oh my God, it was so amazing!”
She then awarded it 11s, which were written on two paper plates, before crying: “Jeez, Woah, I’m wet…”
As the studio fell silent for a second and John, Johannes and Claudia looked stunned, Shirley added: “…with the sweat!”
Strictly viewers were in hysterics at Shirley’s appearance on the show, with one writing on Twitter: “That moment when they cut live to a pub to speak to John’s friends and the woman states she’s wet… *blinks* Kudos to the team to glossing over it but wow.”
Another added: “John Waites friend Shirley ‘I’m wet’ Amazing. Live links are dangerous.”
A third tweeted: “I’m still hooting about that “I’m wet” moment on #Strictly, the entire studio went *absolutely* silent for several seconds, even Claudia was lost for words, she had nothing, you could have heard an atom drop.”
Meanwhile an equally amused viewer wrote: “The rest of the show has just been over shadowed for me by the “I’m wet” comment. Can’t stop laughing.”
John and Johannes went on to top the leaderboard with an impressive 38, having secured 10s from Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke.
