Fans convinced of first elimination
Strictly Come Dancing fans are already placing their bets on which couple will be the first to be booted off the show. After the first episode of the 2023 series aired on Saturday, viewers were quick to make predictions.
Host Nikita Kanda to go?
Many fans believe that BBC Asian Network host Nikita Kanda is in danger of being eliminated. Her Waltz with partner Gorka Marquez failed to impress the judges, receiving a score of just 18 out of 40. Judge Craig Revel-Horwood even gave them a measly three points. Some fans have speculated that Nikita and Gorka will be the first couple to leave the competition.
Other standout performances
While Nikita and Gorka struggled, other celebrities shone on the dance floor. Angela Rippon, 78, wowed the judges with her Cha Cha Cha, earning a score of 28. Zara McDermott, 26, and her partner Graziano also impressed with a score of 19.
The first vote
Strictly Come Dancing will combine the scores from the first week with next week's performances before the first vote. This means that the celebrities' fate on the show is not solely based on their performance in the first episode.
Clues from social media
Fans have taken to social media to discuss their predictions. Some have mentioned that Nikita's performance was stiff and that she seemed out of time. Another fan on Reddit said that they think Nikita and Gorka will leave on Sunday night. However, it's worth noting that fans' predictions do not always align with the judges' decisions.
Nikita's focus on the show
In an exclusive interview with The Celeb Report, Nikita revealed that she is fully focused on enjoying the show and learning the dances. She also mentioned that, despite rumors of a potential Strictly curse, she is currently single and focused on her work.
Other standout performances and off-screen drama
While Nikita and Gorka's performance was underwhelming, Casualty actor Nigel Harman and Katya Jones wowed the judges with their Paso Doble and scored high. Off-screen, there has been drama as Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington allegedly threatened to quit the show due to her partner Giovanni's "militant" training approach. However, the pair put on an impressive performance on Saturday.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.20pm on BBC1.
