Strictly sign up BBC radio star Nikita Kanda as ninth star in line up

STRICTLY Come Dancing has announced radio presenter Nikita Kanda as its ninth star for the 2023 series.

The BBC programme this morning revealed that the Asian Network’s Breakfast Show host will be waltzing onto the dancefloor later in the year.

She was immediately welcomed by the show’s pro dancers, with the likes of Graziano di Prima and Jowita Przystal both sharing their excitement in the Instagram comments.

The bubbly radio star took over the Breakfast Show in January after two years at the Asian Network.

Speaking at the time, she said: ”It’s the only job that I have ever jumped out of bed at 4am for because I love radio. Every day is different you never know what you’re going to get.

“Over the last few months, the listeners have become my best friends. I don’t know what I would do without them as they provide the endless daily laughs and banter and are the main focus of the show. I can’t wait to get stuck in to more ‘Kanda Chaos’ as my producers like to call it. Just make sure to join in for this crazy ride, I promise you it will be a lot of FUN!”

The addition of Nikita into the Strictly fold follows former Emmerdale star Adam Thomas, who was announced earlier today.

Strictly said: “Dance lessons are on the curriculum for Waterloo Road‘s Adam Thomas he’s ready to be schooled in the world of #Strictly!”

Speaking about taking part, Adam said: “I am so excited to be joining the cast of this years’ Strictly Come Dancing. I’ve been such a big fan of the show for years, I can’t believe I’m actually doing it!

“I can’t dance to save my life but I’m buzzing to learn and have a good laugh with my pro. Get me on that dance floor…I can’t wait!”

The actor made his breakthrough on ITV’s Emmerdale as Adam Barton and finished third in 2016’s I’m A Celebrity.

Last night Zara McDermott was announced for the show, making history as the first ever Love Island star to land a place.

She joins actress Amanda Abbington, Bad Education star Layton Williams, Strictly’s oldest-ever star Angela Rippon, journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy, comedian Eddie Kadi and Irish TV presenter Angela Scanlon.
