ACTOR Layton Williams has revealed he was expelled from the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School – which counts stars like Amy Winehouse and Melanie C among its alumni.

The West End star, who is reported to have signed up to this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, made the confession to Jamie Laing on his Private Parts podcast.

Layton Williams has opened up about growing up on a council estate in Manchester

Opening up to Jamie about his council estate upbringing, Layton said he struggled to fit in at Sylvia Young because he was too boisterous.

Layton said: “I actually got expelled from my theatre school. Shout out Sylvia Young.

“It’s all love now we’ve patched it up, which was lovely a couple years ago, because I always thought she hated me.”

He continued: “I was quite a disruptive student. Because in my mind, you’ve plucked me from my estate.

“I am living my best life. My priorities were in different places.

“And I don’t want to say I was a brat because I do think I always had love in my heart. Like I was just raucous.

“For me, whatever I had to say was more entertaining than the history lesson or the maths class.

“Like, let me stand on the table and sing everyone a song because I’m bored.”

Speaking about growing up on a council estate in Manchester, Layton, who was cast in West End hit Billy Elliott aged 12, explained: “Even though I was quite feminine when I was younger, and like nobody would really come for me because I was a class clown.

“So, I got away with that. And then also, I was just good at acting like I could just act.

“I was actually that girl. As in like, you don’t really want to mess with me as well…because you will get slapped.

“But I would always talk myself out of any fights.

“I used to get out of like rugby and stuff like that when I was at my state school.

“If we did rugby, or whatever, the boys would just want to chase me and just like knock me out for free.”
