Strictly Come Dancing contestant Zara McDermott has revealed that she relies on the show's costume team to ensure her outfits stay in place and avoid any embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions. McDermott, who is partnered with professional dancer Graziano di Prima, stated that she feels empowered each week in her sequins, thanks to the team's expertise.
Confidence and Comfort
The reality TV regular expressed her trust in the costume team, saying, "You are literally strapped in, so nothing pops out. You do a dress run before to make sure that everything stays perfect." McDermott also mentioned that she is happy to wear whatever the team decides is right for her, and hopes that her body confidence will continue to grow throughout the competition.
Stepping Out of Her Comfort Zone
McDermott, who previously appeared on Love Island in 2018, admitted that dancing on Strictly is a massive step out of her comfort zone. She remarked, "I’ve never used my body in this way. I’ve never danced before, so this is a massive step out of my comfort zone. I’m just happy to see what they create for me each week."
Facing Challenges and Building Confidence
While McDermott has faced challenges on the show, including landing in the bottom two, she remains focused on taking each week as it comes. In an exclusive interview, she said, "I can only be happy with how I’ve done each week and not worry about what happens next." Her dance partner, Graziano di Prima, praised her dedication and hard work, saying, "She has been incredible, even asking me to do more hours."
A Supportive Partner
McDermott's boyfriend, Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson, has been a source of support throughout her Strictly journey. Thompson has attended rehearsals and provided energy and encouragement. McDermott expressed her gratitude for his support, stating, "He is so supportive. He came to our rehearsals the other day. I felt we needed a bit of energy. He came in full steam and gave us a good afternoon pick-me-up."
Inspiring Others
McDermott, known for her documentaries on important social issues, hopes to inspire others through her dancing on Strictly. She shared her admiration for young women who push themselves outside their comfort zones and find their confidence, saying, "This is my way of pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. I want to show people to feel the fear and do it anyway."
