DAN Walker has hit back at Strictly Come Dancing fans who branded him a “disgrace” after he made it through to next week’s quarter finals.
The BBC Breakfast host, 44, was saved from being in the bottom by the public vote and Tilly Ramsay, after losing her third dance off, was sent home.
Taking to Twitter after the show, Dan responded those claiming the show is fixed, writing: “Thank you to everyone who is sending lovely messages & enjoying us having fun on #Strictly and to the few who say…
“‘Just leave’. ‘Aren’t you ashamed?’ ‘You’re a disgrace’. ‘It’s a fix’ (which I don’t get). or ‘Who is voting for them?’ IT’S A TV SHOW! See you in the 1/4 finals.”
Praising his partner Nadiya Bychkova, he added: “Quarter finals here we come!
“I’m so happy that I was able to do @nadiyabychkova proud with that rumba and thank you to everyone who has supported us again.”
After it was revealed Dan had made it through to next week’s show, one outraged viewer tweeted: “It’s a fix because the judges are scoring you so high when you can’t dance and your performances are weak at best.
“Absolutely embarrassing that Cynthia gave you a 9.”
Another said: “Who keeps voting for Dan Walker to stay in Strictly Come Dancing? He is a nice man but there are obviously better dancers than him. What a fix it is.”
Ahead of Saturday’s show Dan revealed he had spent much of the morning in tears after he posted a tribute to late friend Gary Speed for BBC Sport, which was shared on the 10th anniversary of his tragic death.
He said: “I’ve been in tears most of the morning reading your responses to the Gary Speed tribute. Thank you.
“Please watch out for your friends & family. Talking can save a life.”
