WHAT better way to celebrate the most romantic day of the year than snuggling up on the sofa with your partner to enjoy a romcom?

You are huge fans of the movie genre, judging by our survey of your fave lovey-dovey films.

Streaming services offer plenty of romantic comedies which feature some of the best love stories of our time.

The movies have also launched the careers of Hollywood stars including Four Weddings actor Hugh Grant.

The Nineties and early Noughties were a golden era for the genre, as the results of our exclusive new Sun survey reveals.

Pretty Woman came top in two categories, while Hugh features in a couple of No1 spots as well.

Here we bring you the full results of our poll of 2,000 people, while expert SCOTT MESLOW celebrates romcoms and recommends some lesser-known gems.

More than 20 per cent of us will shun going out for a Valentine’s meal tonight in favour of an evening in front of the telly, according to a separate poll by Finder.com.

1. Pretty Woman (26%): A prostitute, played by Julia Roberts, and a wealthy businessman (Richard Gere) fall in love. The 1990 film is the highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time, grossing £342million.

2. Bridget Jones’s Diary (21%): Renee Zellweger is the lovably neurotic singleton who has Colin Firth and Hugh Grant brawling in the street for her attention. Based on Helen Fielding’s novels, Bridget’s 2001 movie debut spawned two sequels.

3. Notting Hill (19%): Romcom veterans Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts joined forces in this 1999 movie about a bumbling bookshop owner who falls in love with a world-famous actress.

4. Four Weddings And A Funeral (19%): Hugh Grant is bachelor Charles, who falls more in love with Andie MacDowell’s character at each of the five social events in the film’s title.

5. Groundhog Day (15%): Bill Murray as weatherman Phil relives the same day in this 1993 cult favourite. Audiences were charmed by his romance with Rita, played by Andie MacDowell.

6. The Holiday (15%): Released in 2006, Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz play two women from opposite sides of the Atlantic who swap homes over Christmas – then end up falling for local blokes.

7. Sleepless In Seattle (13%): Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan star in this 1993 classic about a widower whose young son calls a radio talk show to help him find a new companion.

8. When Harry Met Sally (12%): Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal end up more than just pals. Features THAT fake orgasm – still famous 33 years on.

9. 10 Things I Hate About You (10%): A 1999 teen comedy based on Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew. Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) pays the mysterious Patrick (the late Heath Ledger) to charm Kat (Julia Stiles) so he can take out her younger sister.

10. My Big Fat Greek Wedding (9%): This 2002 comedy is about a woman who must persuade her traditional Greek family to accept her lover.

1. “No kissing” rule broken in Pretty Woman (20%): Call girl Vivian (Julia Roberts) insists she doesn’t kiss clients as it’s “too personal” – but that changes when she develops feelings for Edward (Richard Gere).

2. “Oh yes they f***ing do”, from Bridget Jones’s Diary (20%): Everyone was cheering as Bridget ran through the snow in her big knickers, launching herself at Colin Firth at the end of the film.

3. “Is it still raining? I hadn’t noticed” from Four Weddings And A Funeral (15%): As cheesy as it is iconic, Andie MacDowell kisses Hugh Grant as the pair get soaked.

4. The paintball kiss in 10 Things I Hate About You (9%): Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger, as Kat and Patrick, smooch while covered in paint.

5. The foot pop in The Princess Diaries (7%): Every teenage girl wished they were Anne Hathaway in this 2001 film as she finally got to kiss her crush – and flicked on the fairy lights with her foot.

1. Julia Roberts (34%): The 54-year-old has starred in a raft of romcoms, including My Best Friend’s Wedding and Notting Hill. Pretty Woman launched her career and earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress.

2. Reese Witherspoon (12%): Reese, 45, is best-known for playing law student Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and its sequel, which made £66.5million. But Sweet Home Alabama is her highest-grossing romcom, taking £93.8million.

3. Meg Ryan (11%): Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail reaped Golden Globe Best Actress nominations for Meg, 60.

4. Drew Barrymore (11%): Now 46, child star Drew grew to become one of the go-to girls for romcoms, but it is her films with Adam Sandler that really stand out. The pair won Best Kiss for The Wedding Singer and Best On-Screen Duo for 50 First Dates at the MTV Movie Awards.

5. Jennifer Lopez (10%): J-Lo, 52, took home £6.6million for The Wedding Planner, making her the world’s highest-paid Latina actress. In Marry Me, her latest romcom, which was releas- ed last year, she plays a music superstar who decides to wed a random fan.

1. Hugh Grant (32%): The 61-year-old was the go-to leading man for romcoms in the 1990s and early Noughties thanks to his posh charm and handsome looks. His highest-grossing films – Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Four Weddings And A Funeral and Love Actually – made a combined total of £1billion at the box office.

2. Tom Hanks (20%): With dozens of films and six Oscars to his name, it is easy to forget 65-year-old Tom has been in some very famous romcoms, including You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless In Seattle.

3. Will Smith (10%): The former rapper has come a long way since his days on telly comedy Fresh Prince Of Bel Air. Will, 53, is now one of the industry’s most in-demand and highest-paid actors, earning £14.7million for his romcom Hitch, where he was paired with Eva Mendes.

4. Matthew McConaughey (10%): Before he took on more serious roles in films such as Aids biopic Dallas Buyers Club, women in the Noughties were swooning over Matthew, 52, as the leading man in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, The Wedding Planner and Failure To Launch.

5. Adam Sandler (10%): If there’s one thing 55-year-old Adam does well, it’s comedy. He has starred in some of the best romcoms around, such as The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates – which saw fans part with £146million at the box office.

1. Emma Thompson’s character getting the CD, not the necklace in Love Actually (32%): The late Alan Rickman gave Emma Thompson’s character a Joni Mitchell album instead of the expensive necklace she knew he had bought, which was for another woman.

2. Harry telling Sally all the reasons he loves her in When Harry Met Sally (21%): The pair insist they’re just friends – so it’s a touching moment when Harry finally tells Sally all the reasons he loves her at the end of the film.

3. Sam and Annie on top of the Empire State Building in Sleepless In Seattle (20%): It feels like the pair are destined never to meet. When they finally do, at the top of the Empire State Building, it is a magical moment.

4. Robbie’s romantic song for Julia in The Wedding Singer (17%): You can’t help but smile at the end of this 1998 film as Adam Sandler’s character Robbie finally gets to perform his song, Grow Old With You, for Drew Barrymore’s Julia on an aeroplane.

5. Jules letting Michael go in My Best Friend’s Wedding (15%): Jules (Julia Roberts) spends the entire film pining after her best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) who is about to get married to Kimmy, played by Cameron Diaz. But at the end of the 1997 film she makes the heartbreaking decision to let him go. Cue tears.
