Taylor Swift’s Film of Era Tour to Give Struggling Cinemas a Multi Million-Pound Boost

Taylor Swift’s concert film projected to make £194 million in first four weeks in the US alone

Taylor Swift’s upcoming film of her record-breaking Era tour is expected to provide a much-needed boost to struggling cinemas. The movie is set to be released this Friday, offering a welcome influx of revenue to cinema chains that have been starved of new releases due to the US actors’ strike. According to US cinema distributor AMC, global advance sales for the film have already reached £81 million. In the US alone, the concert film is projected to make £194 million in its first four weeks, indicating that the worldwide takings are likely to be astronomical.

Taylor Swift’s popularity forces release date change

Taylor Swift’s immense popularity has even forced film producer Jason Blunt to bring forward the release date of his film, “Exorcist: The Believer,” by online jokingly declaring "#TaylorWins." The singer, who is set to make £1 billion from her 146-gig tour across five continents, shot the 160-minute film over three nights in LA.

Film provides a lifeline for struggling cinema operators

Vue cinemas boss Tim Richards has described Taylor Swift’s film as a “significant lifeline” for cinema operators worldwide. He believes that this unexpected release will generate significant revenue, providing struggling cinemas with some much-needed relief. Richards also points out that other big acts are starting to realize the potential of monetizing their music concerts through film. Beyoncé is scheduled to release her Renaissance tour film in December.
