Teen Mom Leah Messer reveals doctors found benign tumor in breast & admits she fears having surgery because of addiction

LEAH Messer discovered a benign tumor growing in her breast and shared fears of relapsing into her pain medication addiction.

The Teen Mom 2 star suffered a botched spinal tap after giving birth to her daughter Adalynn in 2013.

It turned out to be a benign tumor

Leah, 29, shared some worrisome news in the season premiere of the MTV show.

After conducting a self-inspection the reality star was dismayed to find a lump in her “right breast.”

The TV personality then went to the gynecologist for an “ultrasound,” where doctors informed her she had a “benign tumor.”

Leah explained in a confessional that her biggest fear is that she will need surgery for the tumor, and that she will need pain medication to help her through the process.

Her last major surgery led to drug addiction

The mother of three was previously addicted to pain pills after an emergency c-section with her youngest daughter Addie.

“Being an addict and owning my addiction, any kind of surgery is terrifying for me,” she confessed.

“I’m like, will I need medication? I just need to make sure that I’m not relapsing.

“I was depleted, gone, mentally, physically,” she recalled.

Leah expressed fear for her daughters

She hoped the verdict wasn’t cancer or surgery for their sake

In October of 2020, Leah came clean about her struggles with addiction, after previously hiding her truth due to being “scared of all the hate.”

At that time she announced her memoir Hope, Grace & Faith, titled after her three daughter’s middle names, where she explained her drug hardships.

“I’ve also been working really hard writing a book about my life, because even though so much of my path has played out on TV, there’s a lot that I haven’t dealt with publicly.

“It became way deeper than I thought it was going to be because I’ve talked about things that I didn’t think I would.”

She ‘spiraled’ into addiction

Leah, who is now over six years sober, explained how she hoped her story could create a “difference” for someone else out there struggling.

“There are so many reasons behind me wanting to write this book.

“I’ve experienced so much in my lifetime that I haven’t been completely honest about and I feel like I’m finally ready – ready to be open about it, ready to take whatever comes,” she explained.

“And not care – because I know it’s going to make a difference for someone else.

“I’ve never said this before but I was addicted to pain medication. I definitely think there was a lot – but I was scared to hear all the hate.”

Leah was concerned that not only would she have a “big addict” label stamped on her head, but she would also have to deal with the repercussions from her daughter’s fathers, Corey Simms and Jeremy Calvert.

“It’s nothing I should be ashamed of. I want others to own their story and not be ashamed or feel alone,” she told MTV viewers.

She wants to help others who are also suffering

Leah previously claimed that she suffered a “botched” spinal tap while giving birth to Addie, leading to her reliance on prescription medications.

The MTV star had already suffered from depression and anxiety, and after the hospital prescribed her Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, and Tylenol 3, she went on a “downward spiral” into addiction.

At one point the Teen Mom star admitted to using a “ridiculous amount” of pills and in a real low point had even tried heroin.
