The Bay bosses tease shock death in series four as filming begins on ITV drama

ITV bosses have teased the upcoming drama that fans of The Bay can expect from its highly-anticipated fourth season.

The Bay has commenced filming once again – and will see the return of some of the familiar faces loved by viewers at home.

Marsha Thomason is set to return as the lead

The team will investigate a new murder in Morecambe

Marsha Thomason is set to reprise her role as DS Jenn Townsend, facing another round of tough cases in the new season.

She will act as Morecambe CID’s Family Liaison Officer as the team investigate the death of a local mother-of-four named Beth Metcalf.

Beth’s death is deemed suspicious by the authorities, who quickly uncover a web of secrets and lies as they investigate.

DS Townsend and her team also have to deal with Beth’s widow Dean – played by Gentleman Jack star Joe Armstrong.

The grief-torn father is unable to provide the right care to his four kids, or give the officers any clues as to how to solve Beth’s murder.

Elsewhere, season four will also see the return of regular faces Daniel Ryan, Erin Shanagher and Thomas Law.

While Andrew Dowbigging, Barry Sloane, Georgia Scholes and David Carpenter have returned for their roles on the show.

New faces set to join the cast include Clair Goose as Chris Fischer’s ex wife Jacqui, Ian Pulestone-Davies and Karl Davies.

Christopher Doghill, Tom Taylor, Eloise Thomas, Will Oldfield and Ella Smith will also play the Metcalf children.

Executive producer Catherine Oldfield said of the show: “Marsha’s arrival in series 3 elevated The Bay yet again and has delivered another thrilling story for our hugely talented cast to get stuck into

“We can’t wait to bring it to life once again set against the backdrop of Morecambe’s beautiful eerie skies and shore.”

Head of Drama at ITV, Polly Hill, added: “The Bay continues to captivate viewers and is a hugely successful drama for ITV, both on linear transmission and the ITV Hub.

“Marsha Thomason’s casting in the last series was inspired, and Daragh Carville and the Tall Story Pictures team once again deliver a plot full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing to the end.”

The Bay originally starred Morven Christie – who left the show in season two before Marsha took centre stage.

The third season covered the fate of Christie’s character DS Lisa Armstrong before DS Jenn Townsend took over.
