GORDON Ramsay has revealed he recently had the best curry of his life in Newcastle.
The Michelin star chef said the grub was as good as dishes he’d enjoyed in Mumbai, India.
Gordon Ramsay knows a thing or two about food
Gordon Ramsay and daughter Tilly launched his ITV show Next Level Chef earlier this year at Bread Street Kitchen in London
Gordon, 56, said: “It was a beautiful Indian restaurant, Khai Khai. We turned up at 6pm thinking we could get an early table and it was packed.
“I went in the kitchen – the female brigade making the incredible rotis and naans, burns up their arms.
“The following day I went over to an area with all these little pop-up kitchens next to that beautiful bridge over the Tyne.
“I had this vegan sushi and I had to just stop and look at the Tyne and remember where I was! This is f***** unreal. I am in Newcastle!
“I had one of the best curries in my entire life, that took me back to being in Mumbai and Rajasthan.”
Gordon was discussing the UK food scene as his ITV food show, Next Level Chef, reaches its midway point.
He added: “This is the turning point in this competition.
“Now is your time to shine. The mistakes are your own. There is no depending on anyone else to get you to the next level. It’s you.
“The competition takes on a whole new meaning. They start to smell the prize.
“They get excited that the end line is in sight. The levels of feistiness are more ambitious.
“The cooking gets more creative. There are more risks taken.”
The contest sees cooks grabbing ingredients from a descending lift to try and move up to the next level.
Gordon has help judging the talent from US chef Nyesha Arrington and homegrown Michelin star Paul Ainsworth.
They’ve all been impressed by two social media chefs, Temi and Jade, who remain in the competition.
Gordon added of his own online career: “On TikTok I’ve got 37 million followers, the largest in the country and one of the largest in the world.
“On TikTok I saw food I never thought I would see or f**** taste in my entire life.
“I’ve interacted with eight year-olds to 88 year-olds!”
Next Level Chef continues tomorrow night, Wednesday, at 9pm on ITV.
