WHAM!’s story is being told in this nostalgic documentary

Iconic pop groups from the 80s don’t get much bigger than WHAM!.

For four short but intense years, the band – comprised, of course, of childhood best friends George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley – dominated the charts, adding serious amounts of energy and fun with songs like Club Tropicana, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go and Last Christmas.

Forty years later, WHAM!’s story is being told in this fabulously nostalgic documentary from Tiger King director Chris Smith, who was given unprecedented access to the much-missed George and Andrew’s personal archive.

As a result, it features a treasure trove of never-before-seen footage and rare and candid interviews, which will are guaranteed to thrill still-devoted fans. A warm and wonderful slice of pop nostalgia.

The Lincoln Lawyer

Lincoln Lawyer is back with another season so get ready

CRIME Available from Thursday

The first season of The Lincoln Lawyer was a huge hit, with viewers instantly warming to charming and idealistic criminal defence attorney Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo).

Always busy and allergic to the thought of being stuck behind a desk, Mickey does much of his business from the back seat of his chauffeur-driven Lincoln car – hence the show’s name – deftly manoeuvring his way through complex Los Angeles legal mazes, trying to keep some colourful clients happy along the way.

Now it’s time to buckle up once again because season two is here, with Mickey embarking on a new relationship with a glamorous local chef, only to find himself having to defend her when she’s accused of a serious crime.

Also starring Neve Campbell and Becki Newton as Mickey’s two surprisingly supportive ex-wives, this is legal drama at its most bingeable.

And this time, the season is divided into two parts, the first landing on Thursday, with the second to follow on 3 August.

The Out-Laws

FILM Available from Friday

If you thought your in-laws were bad, at least they’re not infamous bank robbers.

That’s the reality facing Owen Browning (Adam Devine) – a straight-laced bank manager on the verge of getting hitched – in this uproarious action comedy.

In the week leading up to his wedding, Owen’s bank is robbed by notorious criminals the Ghost Bandits, an experience that leaves him convinced his fiancée Parker’s (Nina Dobrev) parents, Billy (Pierce Brosnan) and Lily (Ellen Barkin), are the ones responsible.

When Parker is then taken hostage by an angry criminal who says the Ghost Bandits owe her money, Billy and Lily have to admit that Owen was right all along.

Can this unlikely trio work together to save Parker? A silly but amusing crime caper.

Do you ever wish you had a robot version of you, which you could send out to do all the annoying stuff in life that you’d rather not bother with? Well, that’s the situation in this enjoyably silly but satirical romcom, which is set 10 years from now.

Unwilling to do all the running himself, egotistical womaniser Charles (Jack Whitehall) gets his robot double to woo women for him to sleep with, while gold-digger Elaine (Shailene Woodley) gets hers to seduce men so she can fleece them of their cash.

Things go spectacularly wrong when, unknowingly, Charles dispatches his robot out on a date with Elaine’s robot, and the two androids fall for each other and decide to make a break for it.

With the robots on the run, can Elaine and Charles work together to hunt them down?

The Horror Of Dolores Roach

THRILLER Available from Friday

The best new TV to stream next week – from WHAM! to Olivia Attwood: Getting Filthy Rich
This is a blackly funny, blood-splattered eight-part horror that you won’t forget in a while

After spending 16 years behind bars for a crime she didn’t commit, Dolores Roach (Justina Machado) returns to her home neighbourhood, only to find it gentrified, unfamiliar and unwelcoming.

Looking for somewhere to live, she reconnects with an old friend who lets her move into his basement and work there as a masseuse.

However, after an unpleasant encounter, things take an unexpectedly violent and gory turn for Dolores, and she sets off down a very dark path indeed.

Based on the hit podcast of the same name and with more than few echoes of Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber, this is a blackly funny, blood-splattered eight-part horror that you won’t forget in a while.

This year marks the iconic film studio’s 100th anniversary and, as part of the celebrations, they’re treating us to a selection of newly restored classic shorts

There’s surely very few people alive now who’d be able to remember a time before Disney.

Indeed, this year marks the iconic film studio’s 100th anniversary and, as part of the celebrations, they’re turning back the clock and treating us to a selection of newly restored classic shorts, ranging from Disney’s earliest to animations from the 50s and 60s featuring much-loved characters.

Released in four batches, the fun begins this week with six films including the Goofy-starring Aquamania from 1961, 1933’s Building A Building – which features Mickey Mouse – and The Skeleton Dance, from 1929, about four skeletons who dance the night away to the music of Edvard Grieg in a spooky graveyard.

A treat for all cartoon nuts.

Around The World With 30 Kilos

DOCUSERIES Available from Tuesday

It was a story that captured headlines. In 2016, two glamorous young Canadian influencers – Isabelle Lagace and Melina Roberge – were arrested after an Australian customs official found millions of dollars’ worth of cocaine in their luggage aboard the luxury cruise liner they’d been holidaying on for seven weeks.

This intriguing three-part series tells their staggering story and features the first-ever interview with Isabelle, a former porn star, who was sentenced to 54 months behind bars in 2017 for drug smuggling, finally getting out in February 2021.

Once you’ve binged all three episodes, you can get another hit by watching Sugar, a movie inspired by the story, starring Katherine McNamara and Jasmine Sky Sarin as – yes – two influencers who get caught up in a drug-smuggling operation aboard a cruise.

It might look like the last place on Earth where you’d find something beautiful and highly valuable, but scratch below the surface of the unforgiving Australian outback and you might just spot the so-called queen of gems: opal.

The determined men and women who feature on Outback Opal Hunters know this only too well, and they’re willing to push themselves to their physical limits to uncover some.

As we rejoin the teams – including The Blacklighters, the Mooka Boys and the Digi Diggers – it seems that the usual obstacles of bad weather, faulty machinery and a lack of funds are going to get in their way once again.

Lost Letter Mysteries

DRAMA Available from Monday

Forget cops investigating gruesome murders – that’s been done a billion times – this six-part series takes a rather more unusual investigative route, following a kind-hearted group of US Postal Service employees – Oliver, Shane, Rita and Norman – as they attempt to track down the recipients of undeliverable mail.

Starring Ugly Betty’s Eric Mabius as the group’s leader Oliver, the mysteries include delivering a damaged letter from a military veteran, attempting to reunite a couple separated after a hurricane and tracing a possibly kidnapped boy.

So if you’re looking for a warm, gentle mystery series, this has our seal of approval.

“It’s such a powerful, deeply sensitive piece of filmmaking,” she says.

“Threaded throughout on so many levels are the very real consequences of living with abuse and trauma.” The victim of that abuse is single mum Jo (Georgina Rich), whose family life in south London is torn apart after a shocking incident, so she flees with her two kids to a remote caravan on the Kent coast.

But with a criminal pursuing her, can she keep her children safe? And can she trust the drifter she lets into their lives? Also available on Google Play and Apple TV.
