To stream or not to stream, that is the question.
But when you see all the new programmes and films on offer the answer is yes!
What’s New?
Nine Perfect Strangers – Amazon Prime Video
Big Little Lies and The Undoing were some of the most talked-about television series of recent years, and you can bet that this highly anticipated miniseries from the same team of creators is going to be just as juicy.
Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Michael Shannon, Regina Hall and Bobby Cannavale are the impressive cast for this gripping eight-parter based on the 2018 novel of the same name by author Liane Moriarty.
Filmed on location in Australia, the series is set at Tranquillum House, a boutique health and wellness resort that proves to be the perfect place for nine overworked, tired and stressed strangers to unwind, heal and get their lives back on track.
During their 10-day retreat, the mysterious – and rather creepy cult-like leader – Russian resort director Masha (Nicole) is on hand to help them ease their way through their tranquil transformation.
The guests assume that they’re in for a blissful ride of pampering, mindfulness and meditation, but when they embark on a journey of digging graves and sitting on the side of cliffs, they soon discover that perhaps all is not as it seems… Expect a gripping watch packed with plenty of twists, turns and suspenseful cliffhangers.
The first three episodes are available from Friday, then five episodes weekly.
Sweet Girl – Netflix
From Taken to Kill Bill and John Wick, there’s no denying that some of the most adrenaline-pumping action movies are based on stories of revenge, and Netflix has taken that winning formula to create a film that does not disappoint.
When a pharmaceutical company pulls a potentially life-saving drug off of the market just before his wife dies from cancer, family man Ray Cooper (Jason Momoa, Aquaman ) vows to get justice.
However, it’s never as simple as one would hope, as his quest for the truth soon leaves his and his daughter’s life in serious danger. Prepare for plenty of thrilling fight scenes and impressive stunts, peppered with touching moments. Available from Friday.
The Chair – Netflix
She’s wowed viewers with her roles on Grey’s Anatomy and the BBC smash-hit Killing Eve, and Sandra Oh is set to gain a few more fans as she leads the cast in Netflix’s latest US comedy-drama.
This binge-worthy watch sees Sandra transform into Dr Ji-Yoon Kim, the first female and person of colour to lead the English department at the prestigious Pembroke University.
But of course, things aren’t as smooth sailing as she’d like. “I feel like someone handed me a ticking time bomb because they wanted to make sure a woman was holding it when it explodes,” admits Dr Kim.
As if trying to get the department back on track wasn’t enough, she faces resistance from long-standing employees at the university as she tries to shake things up, and is even juggling her feelings for fellow professor Bill Dobson (played by Jay Duplass).
Expect plenty of funny moments as Sandra proves, yet again, that she can take on any role and absolutely smash it. Available from Friday.
Truth Be Told – AppleTV+
If you missed the first series of this anthology drama from Nichelle Tramble Spellman, let us fill you in.
It follows investigative reporter turned true-crime podcaster Poppy Parnell (Academy Award-winner Octavia Spencer), who finds herself caught up in a murder investigation she reported on 20 years earlier.
This new series sees things get even more personal for Poppy, as her childhood friend and media mogul Micah Keith – played by Kate Hudson in her first role on the small screen – asks for her help to discover who murdered her husband, but as the investigation unfolds, their friendship is put to the test.
As you’d expect, Octavia and Kate do not disappoint as they put on incredible performances in this exciting and thrilling watch. Available from Friday.
Memories Of A Murderer: The Nilsen Tapes – Netflix
Over a period of five years from 1983, Dennis Nilsen lured young, vulnerable men back to his London home before strangling them and disposing of their bodies under the floorboards.
While his crimes were most recently documented in ITV’s Des, this new feature-length documentary is set to shine a fresh perspective on one of Britain’s most notorious serial killers.
Featuring over 250 hours of never-before-published cassette tapes of his own private recordings that were left in his cell after his death, this documentary explores how Nilsen got away with murder for so long. Available from Wednesday.
Extinct Animation – Sky On Demand
Pitch Perfect star Adam Devine, Ken Jeong and Rachel Bloom lend their voices to this fun, family adventure.
It tells the story of siblings Op (Rachel) and Ed (Adam), who live with their fellow fluffy hole-shaped Flummels on an island on the Galapagos in 1835.
While Ed so desperately wants to fit in, Op’s excitable personality always seems to make them outsiders. However, their lives are flipped upside down when they accidentally time travel to modern-day Shanghai and discover that their species is now extinct.
They must embark on an epic adventure to save themselves and the rest of the Flummels. A funny and very cute watch. Available from Friday.
