The Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik reveals nerves over reuniting with co-star

THE Big Bang Theory’s Amy Farrah Fowler actress Mayim Bialik has opened up about her nerves over reuniting with co-star Simon Helberg.

Mayim – who played the neuroscientist on the hit CBS sitcom – has been busy working on her directorial debut, a new movie called As They Made Us.

It focuses on newly-divorced mum Abigail as she tries to make peace with her dysfunctional family and find a second chance at love.

Howard Wolowitz actor Simon, 41, plays Abigail’s estranged brother Nathan in the new drama.

Mayim, 46, said she had written the role of Nathan with Simon in mind, but was not sure if he would take it, despite their history on screen.

“It was very, very special to work with Simon; I basically wrote with him in mind, but I never thought he would do this movie,” the actress told Variety.

“It also was very important to have someone who knew me when my father passed away, who knew my family, and it felt like having a friend there.”

The film mirrors Mayim’s own personal experiences, having written the plot shortly after her father’s death in 2015.

It follows the story of Abigail, who is a divorced mother of two and becomes the main carer for her parents, Barbara and Eugene when the latter loses his ability to walk.

Abigail then visits her estranged brother Nathan for support – but he refuses to reach out to their dad.

Unfortunately Eugene dies but as the family grieve, Abigail and Nathan are forced to reconnect and face some home truths in the process.

The TV star went onto praise the entire cast calling them an “unbelievable” team to work with.

Mayim added: “They function together, and how they didn’t function, as the roles required.”

“Dianna had a very specific reason she wanted to do this film.

“Working through a lot of what she’s been through and her family, she really, really showed up for this role every single day.”

She added: “Dustin and Candice together was just so exceptional and special.

“Their families knew each other when they were young, but they’ve never worked together this intensely, so that was just so beautiful to see.”

It comes after the gang finally reunited to work on an oral history book on the hit comedy series – which is due out in October.

The book called The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series by Jessica Radloff, features interviews with 40 people, including the cast and creators.

Along with Mayim and Simon, Johnny Galecki (Leonard), Jim Parsons (Sheldon), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Kunal Nayyar (Raj), Melissa Rauch (Bernadette) are all back.

The cast will spill the beans on some of the juiciest behind-the-scene secrets including on gossip about the original pilot and the cast’s personal lives.

“Ever since The Big Bang Theory signed off in May 2019, fans have been asking for a reunion, and come October, they will have it, in the form of The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series,” Radloff said.

“Having covered the series for most of its 12-year run, I thought I knew everything — and I mean everything – about it.

“Turns out, after doing over 116 hours of brand-new interviews for this book I learned my knowledge only scratched the surface, and I promise I’m not over-selling that.”

She also teased that many of the reveals were “new and shocking” to the actors as well as the producers.

“Many of the reveals were new and shocking to the actors as well, and executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro, Steve Holland and Bill Prady,” Radloff continued.

“Now that we are just months away from publication, I presume the level of excitement I have about finally sharing this with the fans is equal to what Sheldon and Amy felt when they won the Nobel.”

The Big Bang Theory, created Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, ran a total of 279 episodes across 12 series from 2007 to 2019.
