The Chase fans up in arms as ‘plank’ contestant makes ‘insulting’ UK geography blunder

THE Chase’s latest episode got viewers riled up after a contestant and host Bradley Walsh made a very awkward blunder on the show.

Alan, from Manchester, who is a special educational needs teacher, faced Anne Hegerty, aka The Governess, during yesterday’s aired episode.

Alan was stumped by the geography question

Prior to battling it out against The Governess, Alan had a chat with Bradley about himself and revealed that in his spare time he likes to cook spicy food such as curries and Thai cuisine and to play golf.

If he won any money Alan told Bradley how he would use the cash to buy his wife a car so she can pick him up from their local pub.

During his initial cash builder at the start of the episode, Alan impressed when he got six questions right and won £6,000 that he decided to play with against Anne.

Viewers were rooting for the teacher as he zoomed through his questions getting them correct, but on his final question he made a huge error that ended up annoying fans at home.

Bradley Walsh offered little in the way of help

Fans were super quick to pick up on Alan’s error after the question asked which tourist destination was the furthest North and Alan correctly chose ‘The Golden Mile’.

But it was then that he made a huge geography mistake, as he asked if The Golden Mile is in Edinburgh.

Alan said: “It’s in Edinburgh isn’t it?”

Bradley agreed as Alan headed back over to the team with his £6K still in hand but viewers at home and The Governess were not letting the error slide.

Anne Hegarty emerged victorious in the final round

The Governess addressed the mistake, saying: “It’s the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, The Golden Mile is in Blackpool.”

Viewers were also quick to take to their social media account on Twitter to vent about the error.

One tweeted: “Everyone in Blackpool feeling insulted that Alan doesn’t know the golden mile.”

A second wrote: “The Golden Mile is Blackpool you plank.”

Alan received some playful swipes on Twitter for his mistake

“Omg Edinburgh??! #TheChase” tweeted another in shock.

While a fourth joked: “How very dare you, Alan?! I’m offended.”

Alan got through by the skin of his teeth, but Anne went on to knock out two of his teammates – meaning only two went up against her in the final chase… and a £70,000 pot to play for.

After only getting a 13 question lead in the final chase, Anne was able to catch up with the team with a minute remaining, and they went home with nothing.

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV.
