THE Chase’s Anne Hegerty has hit back at Jeremy Clarkson after his brutal Who Wants To Be A Millionaire snub.
The two TV stars have become embroiled in an unlikely feud after Jeremy claimed he didn’t know who Anne was when a question about her came up on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
When the contestant facing the question asked Jeremy for help, the host replied: “I’ve never even heard of two of the people in this list – Adil Ray and Anne Hegerty.”
Now Anne, 63, has hit back with a dig of her own, as when asked if she watches Jeremy’s quiz show, she told the Express: “I don’t watch Millionaire as it’s quite slow and there are not a lot of questions.”
She continued: “If it doesn’t sound disloyal, there are a lot of good BBC quiz shows like University Challenge and Mastermind.”
However, when asked about Jeremy’s snub and him not knowing who she is, Anne conceded: “I can understand though. I often say nobody with a job knows who I am.
“We are on at five o’clock in the evening and everyone is coming home from work.”
After Jeremy made the comment, viewers tweeted their disbelief at him not knowing who Anne is, with one even asking: “Never heard of Anne Hegerty?! Thought it was worth a smug laugh?”
Jeremy, 61, replied: “I really hadn’t. Or the other chap.”
Anne then replied: “He’s probably far too busy to watch either The Chase or Britain’s Brightest Family!”
Anne has been ‘The Governess’ on The Chase since 2010 and also appears on its spin-off show, Beat The Chasers.
She was a contestant on the 2018 series of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! and has hosted Britain’s Brightest Family since 2018.
