THE Circle fans are horrified after the show is cancelled by the Channel 4 – meaning it won’t be back for a fourth series.
The popular E4 sees players communicate and compete with each other online while housed separately in a block of flats, with the winner being voted for by other contestants.
Channel 4 have decided to call time on The Circle – which first aired in 2018 – as it wants to focus on other shows.
The broadcaster said in a statement: “The Circle has been a huge hit for young audiences and has grown successively over three seasons on Channel 4, consistently outperforming slot averages.
“We’re incredibly proud to have worked with Studio Lambert North and Motion Content Group to invest in such an innovative show and to have given it a springboard for its international format success.
“In much the same way as when we originally commissioned The Circle, Channel 4 has a responsibility to continually look at how we reinvent and create space for new ideas, and so we have decided not to commission the show for a fourth season.
“We’d like to thank Studio Lambert, Motion and all those involved for The Circle’s huge success over the last three series.”
Fans were devastated by the news and begged Netflix to pick up the series.
One person said: “I can’t believe they’re cancelling #TheCircle hopefully Netflix will pick the UK version up too”
Another added: “i’m gutted that #thecircle’s been scrapped. i really enjoyed watching the show.”
A third remarked: “Beggars belief the decisions @Channel4 make. One of the best shows they have and they just toss it aside. Hopefully the producers can make a deal with @NetflixUK. #TheCircle”
The third and final series was won by Natalya Platonova, who played as a catfish “Felix”.
Series two was won by Paddy Smyth, who was himself, and the first winner was Alex Hobern, who catfished as “Kate”.
Meanwhile, The Celebrity Circle – which used celebrities instead of members of the public – was won by Lady Leshurr, playing as Big Narstie.
