THE Great British Bake Off’s cringey Mexican Week has fallen as flat as a tortilla — and even been accused of hurting British trade relations.

Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas wore ponchos and sombreros and made jokes which left a bad taste in some viewers’ mouths.

The British Mexican Society branded Tuesday’s Channel 4 show “irritating”.

A spokesperson added: “It is unhelpful when we are trying to establish better relations with a country such as Mexico for trade deals etc.”

Professor Ana Elena González-Treviño, of King’s College London, said: “Collating Mexican cuisine with a simplistic, outmoded and ignorant stereotype puts an end to the merit that may have been in the inclusion of the Mexican theme in the first place.”
