Despite viewers having to wait to see Joelle Rae make her debut as Mariette they enjoyed having it back on their screens

The episode saw Pop accept a lucrative offer that he just couldn’t refuse, while romance blossomed for Primrose.

The Larkins also met their new shot-gun obsessed neighbours, the Jerebohms, who hosted a dinner party that ended up being memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Another newcomer introduced to fans in the first episode was  the dashing Reverend Candy played by Maxim Ays.

While fans will still have to wait to see Joelle Rae make her debut as Mariette – after taking over the role from Sabrina Bartlett – many were thrilled to have the show back on their screens.

LARKIN' ABOUT

The Larkins cast - from Bradley Walsh to Sabrina Bartlett

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “Glad to have #TheLarkins back. Hope we get some more beautiful sights of the Bluebell railway at some point.”

Another added: “New vicar, new family, £17,000 house, staged shooting & a love interest. What a fantastic way to start a new series.

“This is going to be another watchable and incredible series with Ma and Pop Larkin. Can’t wait for the rest of the series!”

A third tweeted: “So glad to see #thelarkins back on. Nice easy Sunday evening watch.”

Meanwhile a fourth shared: “Love having #TheLarkins back on perfect Sunday evening viewing.”

Earlier this month, actress Joelle, 21, spoke to The Celeb Report on Sunday about how ‘daunting’ it was to take over the role of Mariette from Sabrina.

But she said she was helped through the experience by co-star Lydia Page – who plays Primrose Larkin in the revived series – and who she trained with.

She said: “I actually trained with Lydia. I trained at a place called Television Workshop in Nottingham.

“We were never in the same play group together. Then obviously when I heard that she was in it as well it was like, ‘Yeah! A familiar face!’

“Because coming into the cast, as somebody new it’s obviously always going to be quite daunting.

“So since filming, we’ve obviously got a lot closer.”

The Larkins airs Sundays at 8pm on ITV and is available on ITV Hub.
