OVER the years there have been some pretty explosive home makeover rows that have ended in the contestants taking TV bosses to court.
Us Brits love watching anything that give us an insight into other people’s homes, with fan favourites like Grand Designs and Escape to The Chateau.
We also enjoy seeing incredible home transformations on programmes like DIY SOS, 60 Minute Makeover and Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out.
And it’s no different over in the US as there are plenty of shows out there that are just like them.
But it seems like there have been a handful of people who have hated their end result.
So much so that they have even had to take legal action to try and sort it out.
Let’s have a look at some of the most well known cases…
Mindy and Paul King
Mindy and Paul appeared on when the HGTV series Property Brothers three years ago.
The show, which premiered back in 2011, sees brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott help couples find and do up their perfect home.
The Las Vegas pair were on a mission to find their dream home in 2018, and after they found out about Property Brothers, they decided to go ahead with appearing on the show.
And while many would have thought they would have been happy with their results as there were electrical and structural issues.
They later took legal action against the production company Cineflix and contractors Villa Construction.
The case is still ongoing and is due to go into litigation.
Cineflix recently issued a statement saying: “We recognise the responsibility we are granted by the homeowners who choose to take part in our television shows.
“Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc. works with dedicated professionals who take pride in their work. We are aware of Paul and Mindy King’s claims and have worked to resolve the short punch list of items that were identified by the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB).
“When the Kings rejected our attempts to complete the work, the NSCB closed the case and the punch list of items remain unresolved. As this matter is now before the courts, we are unable to comment any further at this time.”
Deena Murphy and Tim Sullivan
The North Carolina couple took part in HGTV’s Love It or List It back in 2016.
The popular show has had 17 seasons and 206 episodes aired since it aired in 2008.
Viewers see the designer Hilary Farr and real estate agent David Visentin try and help couples figure out if they want to stay in their home or put it up on the market.
Deena and Tim went on to file a lawsuit against the production company Big Coat TV and construction company Aaron Fitz Construction LLC.
The couple sued for breach of contract because of they had “irreparably damaged” their pad.
After the case was blown up in the media the pair were countersued for alleged libel, slander and product disparagement.
The case was later dismissed by both parties and nothing else was made public.
Sharon and Gary Rosier
Renovate My Family aired on Fox between 2004 and 2005.
The programme focused on troubled families and wanted to transform both their homes and family life.
Sharon and Gary Rosier, from Chicago, alleged that there were left with various problems with the property including a pool they could not afford to heat and flooded bedrooms.
They were also keen to have an attached garage put in so that there was easy access for their quadriplegic son, but was never put in.
In the lawsuit they described their home as “virtually uninhabitable” and finally settled on a disclosed amount.
