THE One Show’s Alex Jones broke down in tears live on air as she prepared to go on maternity leave.
The presenter, 44, was surprised by her co-host Gethin, 43, paying tribute to her before she left the show.
Gethin started by reading out a message from viewer Pauline, who said Alex had eased the “trials and tribulations” of the past year for her.
He then played a message on the television screen featuring her family, friends and fans – and all of them wished her good luck.
The well-wishers included Alex’s husband Charlie Thomson, her parents, and Jason Donavon.
Alex then began to sob on air, saying: “Oh you know me I cry over the slightest thing.
“Honestly being here is just superb, I loved doing it every night and it’s really hard to go away.
“i know it’s the third one but it’s really hard to go away.”
THIRD BLESSING
Alex is mum to sons Edward, four, and Kit, two, but the presenter announced in March that her third child will be a baby girl.
The TV star told BBC One viewers she is having a baby girl calling her pregnancy “the best surprise ever”.
Alex, who gave birth to son Kit in 2019, posed alongside the youngster and husband Charlie Thomson in a black and white snap.
The lad was pictured holding up a letterboard bearing the words: “Coming soon… Baby Number 3.”
Little Kit was Alex’s second baby with New Zealander husband Charlie after son Teddy’s arrival in 2017.
The Welsh star also revealed the news live on air on The One Show, telling co-host Ronan Keating: “I feel really nervous all of a sudden.
“It just seems like a good time to share some news with everybody and the crew in the studio for the first time.
“Lockdown has been anything but predictable and we’ve had some really unexpected news. Baby number three is on the way.”
Ronan, who has five children, asked her: “Boy or a girl?” to which she replied: “A little girl!”
Alex got engaged to insurance broker Charlie Thomson in February 2015 after meeting at a party in 2011.
The couple tied the knot the same year at Cardiff Castle on December 31 – announcing they were expecting their first child less than a year later.
