The Orphan star Isabelle Fuhrman is all grown up and unrecognisable 13 years on from horror debut

ORPHAN first graced our screens 13 years ago and its child protagonist looks completely unrecognisable since appearing in the film.

Following her portrayal as Esther in the psychological thriller, actress Isabelle Fuhrman was labelled as a “horror icon” – and it’s easy to see why.

Isabelle, who was just 12 when the film premiered in 2009, was lauded for her ability to vacillate between Esther’s precocious ersatz child and deranged killer modes.

Since her scintillating performance in Orphan, Isabelle, now 24, has appeared in a number of beloved TV shows and films.

Most notably, the actress appeared in The Hunger Games, Hellbent, Down a Dark Hall and Escape Room: Tournament of Champions.

As of right now, Isabelle has taken on the role of Esther once again, with the 24-year-old revealing that Orphan’s upcoming prequel will be sure to shock viewers all over again.

Delving into the upcoming film – titled Orphan: First Kill – Fuhrman told The Hollywood Reporter about the challenge of returning to play Esther.

She also explained how First Kill will be one of the first films to feature a now-adult actor returning to play the role of a ‘child’ that they first portrayed when they were actually kids.

She said: “Will Smith, for example, recently did that movie Gemini Man where they de-age somebody, but to reprise a role that you literally did as a kid as an adult has never been done before.

“It’s kind of impossible. And we did it. We didn’t use special effects, we didn’t use any crazy makeup tricks.

“And I think that’s what makes the movie work, is because you really can’t figure out how I look like a nine-year-old, but I do, and it’s really creepy.”

Orphan: First Kill has been acquired for release by Paramount, but there is no current release date at this time.
