A classic BBC period drama is getting a spin-off nearly three decades after it first graced our screens. Pride and Prejudice, the iconic 1995 adaptation of Jane Austen's novel starring Colin Firth as the dashing Mr. Darcy, is set to have a new chapter.
Focus on Mary Bennet
The spin-off, titled The Other Bennet Sister, will shift the spotlight to Lizzy Bennet's sister Mary. Described as awkward, anxious, and a terrible singer, Mary will take center stage in this new adaptation based on Janice Hadlow's novel of the same name.
New Love Story
In this fresh take on the beloved classic, Mary will embark on her own journey of self-discovery and romance as she leaves behind the familiar surroundings of Meryton for the bustling streets of Regency London and the serene landscapes of the Lake District.
Behind the Scenes
The series will be produced by Bad Wolf, known for their work on Doctor Who, and written by Sarah Quintrell. The BBC has teased that this spin-off will offer a unique perspective on the well-known Bennet family dynamics.
Coming Soon
Filming for The Other Bennet Sister is set to begin next year, just in time for the 30th anniversary of the original Pride and Prejudice series. While the cast is yet to be announced, Austen fans can anticipate a fresh take on a familiar tale.
