A GUEST on The Repair Shop broke down in tears after a cherished memento from her late father received a stunning makeover.
The BBC One show saw Jay Blades meet Christine, who had brought in a card table her dad had made himself.
Having recently died of cancer, the table had even more significance for Christine, who revealed to Jay and woodwork specialist Will Kirk how the family cherished their Friday night card game evenings.
She said: “He loved it, he enjoyed having his family around.
“Dad was very competitive at cards. He could tell you what you had in your hand, he was very good at counting the cards.”
She added her dad had made the veneer-covered card table by hand as a gift for her daughter, but it had been damaged by the cold and heat after being kept in Christine’s conservatory for 20 years.
Will had quite a task on his hands as the table had an intricate chessboard design as well as symbols for the card houses.
But after stripping back the veneer and carefully replacing some of the pieces, the expert was able to restore the table to its former glory, complete with glass top.
Christine was in tears before she had even seen Will’s efforts, telling him and Jay: “It’s a special one.
“We lost my dad a few months ago and he put his heart and soul into this so it’s important.”
After the table was unveiled, she cried: “Oh, my God. It’s amazing, It’s better than ever, beautiful.”
She added: “My dad was a very emotional person, he would be in buckets right now, he would be so pleased with that.”
The Repair Shop airs on Wednesdays at 8pm on BBC One.
