The Suspect viewers rip into ‘obvious’ plot holes just minutes into ITV thriller

THE Suspect viewers have branded the drama ‘unrealistic’ after noticing plot holes within minutes of the programme airing.

Viewers ripped into the show, which stars Irish hunk Aidan Turner as doctor Joe O’Loughlin, following its debut on ITV last night (Monday).

The premise of the show sees Joe’s past comes back to bite him as he’s asked to help with his expertise in the case of the death of a young woman.

As police officers DI Vincent Ruiz and DS Riya Devi are assigned to investigate the case, the question is whether the woman was murdered or took her own life.

However, viewers took issue with the opening scene to the show, which they branded “unrealistic”.

It showed Joe being urgently called away from a consultation as a patient went onto the ledge of the seventh floor of the hospital, leaving Joe and other medics worried he was going to jump.

Tasked with speaking to the young boy, Joe was sent out to the ledge wearing a harness while the road beneath was sealed off and crowded with emergency services personnel who watched on.

Viewers then watched on in horror as a gust of wind saw Joe and the patient, called Malcolm, lose their balance and fall from the building – while they both held on to one harness.

The pair were brought to safety as firefighters opened a window on a lower floor and they swung inside.

The stunt did not go down well with viewers at home and they took to social media to share their frustration at the plotline.

One viewer said: “Ten minutes in and I’m thinking, why can’t they write believable dramas anymore?”

“What in God’s name lol. A psychologist being strapped 2 a safety harness outside of a high rise building.” said another.

A third viewer questioned: “Apart from everything that is wrong about this drama #TheSuspect Can a nurse burst in on a psychologist who is with a patient & tell him he’s needed elsewhere. He then leaves his patient without a word. If I was that patient he’d have gotten an earful from me.”

While a fourth said: “#TheSuspect the early scenes are such unrealistic b****cks (speaking as a Clinical Psychologist myself), that I’m switching off. At least try FFS!”

The next episode of the drama will see Dr Joe become convinced something sinister is at play in the case of the dead woman – leading him to suspect one of his patients may know something about the killing.

The Suspect airs on Monday at 9pm on ITV.
