The Tourist viewers stunned as Line of Duty star hides huge secret in Jamie Dornan’s new thriller

JAMIE Dornan’s new BBC thriller The Tourist delivered a major twist in its first episode leaving viewers stunned.

The Irishman’s nameless character was hospitalised with amnesia after being rammed off the road by a lorry in scenes reminiscent of apocalyptic epic Mad Max.

After discharging himself against the advice of medics and cops, he set about trying to discover his identity.

It soon became clear that someone was intent on killing him after he narrowly avoided an explosion at a cafe he had been instructed to visit in a mysterious note.

Following the blast, he spent time with waitress Luci, played by Line of Duty star Shalom Brune-Franklin, and reflected on the madness unfolding over a pint of beer.

While the pair bonded, a mysterious bearded American sought out Jamie’s character at the hospital and was visibly annoyed when he learned he was too late.

Later in the episode, major doubt was thrown on Luci’s intentions as she deleted pictures of her and Jamie from her phone.

The pair clearly have a history that she does not want him to remember, for now anyway.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Shalom explained how she was concerned about giving away the twist in earlier scenes.

She said of their first encounter: “It’s definitely the hardest scene I had in the whole show, because I this fear of, ‘OK, I don’t want to give too much away for the audience, but at the same time, it needs to be realistic, because she’s seeing, essentially, someone she knows very well, and trying to play that…’

“I remember trying to play that moment – I was playing it over a million times in my head. And then on the day, I just remember getting really caught up in my head, because I was thinking about the audience, and what they would put onto me in that moment as well.”

She needn’t have worried as viewers praised the mystery and said they were “hooked” after just one episode.
