The Tower viewers all have the same complaint about ITV thriller’s premiere – and some even resort to switching off

MUFFLED sound on new ITV thriller The Tower left viewers wanting to jump to another channel.

The trailer of the three-part drama, based on Kate London’s novel Post Mortem soon had viewers hooked – with many looking forward to sinking their teeth into it

TV viewers left wondering what was said due to muffling ITV’s The Tower

Hitting TV screens last night, the show sees DS Sarah Collins – played by Game of Thrones actress Gemma Whelan – and her colleague DC Steve Bradshaw – portrayed by Jimmy Akingbola – called to an incident at Portland Tower in South East London.

The body of a long-serving police officer and a teenager were found at the base of the tower and rookie police officer Lizzie Adama at the top of a tower block.

After an explosive opening scene, viewers initially found themselves hooked – but there was a huge problem.

Those that tuned in were soon left wondering what was being said as they “couldn’t hear” the actors due to their voices sounding “muffled.”

One fan on Twitter said: “#TheTower Subtitles activated. Some Actor’s muttering or talking through their teeth. Irritating.”

Another fumed: “Stop mumbling it dosent make you a cool actor just an annoying one #thetower.”

Not long after the show began, Twitter became a switchboard for complaints about the poor sound quality.

“So far the only words I’ve really understood are ‘I want to go home’ #thetower,” a disgruntled viewer said.

Not wanting to be defeated, one viewer tried to push through: “Trying to persevere but the constant mumbling, whispering and generally not opening their mouths when they speak is not helping #TheTower @ITV.”

On a more positive note, other viewers took to playing ‘spot that actor’ as the show included a wide variety of well-known faces.

“Here we go again with a new drama… I’m too busy thinking “I recognise him/her, what were they in?” to follow the plot #TheTower,” one excited fan tweeted.

Appearing in the show, viewers got to play spot the actor with Holby City’s Jimmy Akingbola and Nabil Elouahabi who played ‘Gary’in Only Fools and Horses.

“OK who else just shouted “GARY!” at the telly #TheTower.”

Other actors making up the cast include Emmett J Scanlan from Hollyoaks, Nabil Elouahabi from EastEnders, Nick Holder from Peaky Blinders, Tahirah Sharif from The Haunting of Bly Manor and newcomer Lola Elsokari.

The second episode of The Tower continues at 9pm on Tuesday, 9 November, with the concluding episode airing the following day.
