THIS Morning host Craig Doyle hasn’t been tipped by the bookies as one of the contenders for Phillip Schofield’s job.
But many viewers have insisted they want to see him take over at one of the show’s main hosts.
Craig Doyle has proved a hit with some This Morning fans
He has been fronting the ITV show alongside Alison Hammond
One dubbed the Irish star, 52, the “perfect replacement” for the departing Phillip after he dramatically left This Morning.
Another suggested a line-up where he became the main host alongside Holly Willoughby.
They tweeted: “Craig and Holly Monday to Wednesday, Alison and Holly on a Thursday then Alison and Dermot on a Friday. I have spoken.”
Another said: “Can we give Craig Phil’s job please?”
A third posted: “So we’re all agreed Craig for the new presenter roll then yeah, aye, yeah? Admit it to yourselves, don’t deny him into your life. Embrace The Doyle.”
Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary have been hosting the show ever since Phillip left the job.
However, he was given the day off today to celebrate his 50th birthday, with Craig appearing in his place.
Holly has been allowed a period of time off in the wake of Phillip‘s exit and won’t return to screens until after the half term holiday break.
This Morning have denied that Phillip – the show’s host for 21 years – had been sacked, insisting the departure was agreed between them.
An ITV spokesperson said: “Phillip Schofield’s decision to step down from This Morning was (as his statement made clear) a decision agreed between Phillip and ITV.”
However, Craig isn’t tipped by many bookies to take over – with several thinking the job will go to another existing stand-in.
Coral’s John Hill said: “Following support in our betting, Dermot O’Leary has jumped to the top of the betting to replace Phillip Schofield permanently on This Morning.
“Alison Hammond and Rochelle Humes are very familiar with This Morning and are strong contenders for the job according to our odds.”
