The group of kids opened the show by singing a sweet carol for the audience at home, as the presenters sung and danced along.

Alison, 47, and Dermot, 49, gushed over the performance, before they were joined by Josie Gibson by live link outside the studio.

However, viewers were soon left cringing after Josie, 37, made a very rude joke about Alison being on the ‘naughty list’.

She could be seen dressed up as Mrs Claus as she headed to surprise a viewer with a game of Dosh On Your Doorstep.

Unrolling a large sheet of paper, which she joked was the ‘naughty list’, Josie said: “Let me check who is on the naughty list and who is on the nice list, Alison. Oh, it’s very long!

“Alison Hammond! Your name is first, right there, Alison Hammond. You have been naughty Alison but you are redeeming yourself.

“Alison! Twice in one night?! You saucy mare! There you go!”

Looking embarrassed, Dermot tried to cover their tracks in front of the children, as he joked it referred to Alison “going to the toilet”.

Covering his face, he said: “Josie! You are right, Alison did have to get up a couple of times in the night.”

“Yes, I did have to go to the toilet twice last night,” Alison chimed in, as Dermot continued: “Oh, unbelievable. In front of the [kids], nice one Josie.”

Viewers at home reacted in hysterics, as they flooded Twitter over the awkward moment with laughing emojis.

“Oh Josie,” one wrote alongside a series of laughing faces, while another chimed in: “Uhhhh…. Uhhh… No words.”

A third added: “That was more uncomfortable than having Covid,” as a fourth joked: “Jesus christ it’s too early for this.”

It comes after fans were left cringing after a presenter made a huge blunder with a guest who was losing her hair live on air.

The mishap happened during the phone in with the Speakmans yesterday, who invited viewers with Christmas anxiety.

Alison and Dermot introduced guest ‘Rebecca’ to the show, who revealed she was struggling to socialise.

Wanting to mingle during the festive season and head to their work Christmas party, the phone-in guest wanted tips on combating her nervousness in public.

She revealed it was all due to the fact that she had been “losing her hair and eyelashes” over the past year, making her self-conscious.

Therapists Nik and Eva went on to offer up their advice, trying to boost her confidence, when they made the awkward blunder.

Fans cringed as Eva said: “You know what is a great thing about Christmas? It’s that we can get away with wearing Christmas hats. If you’ve got hair loss, you can cover your head.”

She went on to give advice on how ‘Rebecca’ could combat her nerves, including talking to her close colleagues.

But things went from bad to worse as Eva added: “It’s a time to let your hair down and have a little bit of fun and just relax.”

This Morning continues weekdays at 10am on ITV
