This Morning’s Dear Deidre forced to apologise over massive blunder

THIS Morning’s Dear Deidre was forced to apologise after a technical blunder meant she couldn’t answer viewers’ calls.

The Celeb Report’s former agony aunt columnist Deidre Sanders, 77, had a “nightmare” moment before going on air today.

It meant there was a huge number of calls unanswered – and she couldn’t speak with anyone over the phone.

Host Dermot O’Leary said: “You’ve had a nightmare with the phones today, haven’t you Deirdre?”

Turning to address viewers, Deirdre replied: “Yes I just want to say first of all I know some of you have been ringing in and haven’t been answered and that’s because the phones all went wrong.

“The problems I can answer now are having to be read from people who managed to get through to us earlier on.

“I’m really sorry if you have been trying to get in touch with us. There’s always another week. I won’t go away.”

It’s not known what the issue was, but callers’ problems were read out by hosts Dermot and Alison Hammond instead.

Last year Deidre was “utterly thrilled” to get an MBE for services to charity and mental health.

She found out just days before her husband of 55 years, Rick, passed away.

He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and COPD (lung disease) nearly ten years ago, and Deidre had been his carer since just before the first lockdown.
