This Morning’s Phillip Schofield and co-stars rip into ‘manipulative’ Meghan Markle and Prince Harry after her apology

MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry were widely criticised by This Morning’s stars today after she apologised for misleading a court.

Everyone from Phillip Schofield to the show’s agony aunt Vanessa Feltz had their say on the couple after a bombshell admission he did help with the book Finding Freedom.

Vanessa Feltz described one of the couple’s moves as ‘incredibly misleading’

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have both previously denied having anything to do with the unauthorised autobiography.

But bombshell court documents have revealed that the couple authorised “specific cooperation” for certain topics on the book leading to an apology from Meghan.

Holly Willoughby today introduced the show’s today expert, Camilla Tominey, saying: “You are smiling and I’m not surprised really.

“I mean, there must be many people going ‘see, we told you’ because this in an extraordinary thing that has come out today.”

Phillip added: “What does this do to their credibility? You try to be fair in your coverage of what’s being said about them and what they’re doing.

“But even people who are big fans look at this and think: ‘That’s not great.'”

But Vanessa had perhaps the harshest verdict calling the latest reports “absolutely riveting stuff”.

She said: “It’s actual documentary evidence of emails sent by Meghan and Harry to their communications officer in order to portray themselves in a particular way, in a flattering light, in the way that they have orchestrated, in the way that they want people to perceive them.

“Now that, I think many people will interpret, as incredibly manipulative.”

Vanessa went on: “I wrote down just one sentence that Prince Harry emailed Jason Knauf because I don’t think that it fits at all with the way that we thought Prince Harry operated as a human being.

“He sends his press communicator this: ‘I totally agree that we have to be able to say we didn’t have anything to do with it.’

“I mean, that’s not the Harry that we loved and knew, is it? I thought that he was just an honest, straight-down-the-line, blustery, lovely guy.

“It was described as an unauthorised biography, with the royal couple previously denying any involvement in it.

“And that’s all about we have to be able to say something when we’re actually doing, very clearly, something else!”

Holly, 40, was then heard groaning: “Oh god!”

A witness statement from Meghan and Harry’s former communications secretary Jason Knauf revealed that Meghan had an input on a series of topics that would feature in the book.

She apologised to a court for not telling a judge about emails showing her attempts to influence a biography about her and Prince Harry, saying: “I forgot.”

Meghan said: “I did not have the benefit of seeing these emails and I apologise to the Court for the fact I had not remembered these exchanges at the time.

“I had absolutely no wish or intention to mislead the defendant or the Court.”

Mr Knauf has revealed that he sat down with Omid Scobie and Caroyln Durand in December 2018 to discuss Meghan’s chosen topics.

According to court documents she wanted to make it clear to the authors that she had nothing to do with her estranged half-siblings growing up.

However he added that as far as he knows neither of the couple met directly with the authors during his time as their press secretary.
