What is Titane about?

Titane tells the story of led character Alexia who has a titanium plate in her skull acquired in a car crash as a youngster.

Carrying a huge scar on the side of her head, she works as a hyper-sexualised mechanic who controversially has sex with cars.

As the film progresses, it transpires that she is a murderous female killer who seemingly takes the lives of her victims without care.

As she deals with her crimes and her identity, she later pretends to be a boy and the son of a fireman despite being pregnant by a vintage Cadillac.

Has Titane won any awards?

Despite, its controversial content, Titane won the top prize at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

As a result, Julie Ducournau became only only the second woman to take home the prize for the movie – believed to be one of the wildest, sexiest and most violent films ever shown at the Cannes film festival.

The announcement was revealed early at the closing ceremony in an embarrassing slip-up by jury president Spike Lee.

Lee, the first black man to lead the jury, read out the winner at the very start of the prize section, rather than introducing the first award of the night for best actor.
