Tom Parker’s incredible response when asked about dying and not seeing his kids grow up after cancer diagnosis

TOM Parker had an incredible response when asked about not seeing his kids grow up after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The Wanted singer bravely addressed his future in a candid interview alongside his wife Kelsey, 32, last year.

When asked if had thought about not seeing Aurelia, two, and Bodhi, one grow up into adults, Tom said: “No, because I’m going to be here, I’m going to fight this.”

Kelsey added to OK! magazine: “We have to stay positive. The prognosis is based on much older people, as this usually affects those 50-plus.

“Tom is a young, otherwise fit and healthy guy and he has a much better chance of fighting this and benefiting from some of the new treatments out there.”

The couple were also faced with the unfathomable decision whether to tell their kids about their dad’s illness.

Tom said: “I’m sure if there is a right point we will talk to her about it. She’s still so young, though.”

Kelsey added: “We were discussing this the other day and we said we will tell the kids, especially while Tom’s undergoing treatment.

“When we came back from the appointment in King’s College, where we had everything confirmed, Aurelia was being such a minx.

“We didn’t come in crying but she knew – she just picks up on moods.

“She knows something is happening and that’s why I think you just have to be as normal as possible. We’ll explain more when she’s old enough to understand Daddy’s not well.”

The Wanted star died on Wednesday surrounded by close friends and family, 17 months after announcing he had been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Bolton-born Parker bravely fought Glioblastoma, an aggressive type of cancer that can occur in the brain or spinal cord.

He said he filmed documentary Inside My Head to shine a light on the rare cancer and raise funds for vital research.

He said in the Channel 4 film: “Maybe I was put here for a reason, and that is in terms of Glioblastoma.

“I’d love to raise more awareness, if I can have a positive effect on the treatment of Glioblastoma then that’s a good think, right?

“This house represents a new start for me, I feel like this house has been lovingly looked after. I feel like there’s been a family grown here, and hopefully this is what our family is going to do.”

Kelsey spoke about Tom first experiencing symptoms of Glioblastoma during a holiday with their daughter Aurelia.

She said in Inside My Head: “We went to Norfolk and we were in this cottage right on the river, it was just a really lovely holiday.

“But I remember Tom being really sharp, snappy about things, Tom’s not like that as a person. I took Aurelia upstairs and Tom was laying on the bed, he didn’t look right and he just said ‘I just feel really sick’, he said ‘Kels my hands are really sweaty.’

“Then literally within seconds he was having this seizure, he just seized up, I was in such a panic, the paramedics turned up, they checked him over, they said we’ll take him in but don’t pack too much stuff, he’ll be out in about four hours.

“I could not stop shaking because obviously I knew something was wrong, but I didn’t know what it was gonna be or how bad it was gonna be.”
