Top politician to make cameo appearance in ITV soap Emmerdale

House of Commons speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle to appear in Yorkshire village

HOUSE of Commons speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle will make a guest appearance in tonight's episode of ITV soap Emmerdale.

Highlighting the economic contribution of Emmerdale to the North

Sir Lindsay's cameo will feature him entering the fictional Yorkshire village's Hide Bar & Bistro dressed in a tweed jacket and wellies. Playing the role of a rambler, he will be seen complimenting Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) on her Yorkshire tea after ordering it.

Celebrating Emmerdale's long-standing presence on television

Sir Lindsay expressed his admiration for Emmerdale, noting its more than half a century on air, its portrayal of diverse experiences, and its significant economic impact on the North. He mentioned his visit to the Woolpack to mark the soap's 10,000th episode and praised the talent and warmth of the show's cast.

A delayed appearance due to election restrictions

Although Sir Lindsay visited the soap for its 10,000th episode in May 2024, his footage could not be used by producers until now due to restrictions ahead of the July election.
