Trigger Point viewers slam ITV thriller for ‘ripping off Line Of Duty’ after just one episode

TRIGGER Point viewers has slammed the thriller for “ripping off Line Of Duty” after just one episode.

Soon into the episode, Vicky McClure – who stars in both the BBC police series and the new ITV drama – was seen facing off against improvised explosive devices, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats.

Trigger Point viewers are convinced that the new thriller is a ‘rip off’ of Line of Duty

Early on in proceedings, McClure’s character – named Lana ‘Wash’ Washington – is seen consoling a civilian with an explosive vest attached to him.

However, viewers were quick to point out the similarities with the new thriller and popular police drama Line Of Duty – especially with the excessive use of the word “mate”.

One wrote: “The overuse of the word mate in #triggerpoint seems like a rip off of #lineofduty.”

“Thought the mate thing was @Vicky_McClure and @martin_compston thing,” another posted.

A third commented: “Why am I getting a strong Line of Duty vibe from this new show Trigger Point? All too similar for me. #TriggerPoint”

Another wrote: “HE SAID MATE!! JOEL AND LANA THE NEW KATE AND STEVE??”

Someone else added: “It is like #lineofduty Kate wanted a career change and decided to defuse bombs.”

Meanwhile, some viewers were also unhappy with the ad breaks that “interrupted” the drama.

Before the action could unfold, viewers watching on ITV were swiftly taken to an advert break, with some claiming the move was “killing the drama”.

Taking to Twitter, one person watching from home vented: “The constant advert interruptions really don’t help you get into this. Maybe this should have been on the BBC.”

Echoing their comments, someone else said: “This is why I’m happy to pay the TV licence fee because it means at least you get no adverts. Talk about killing the drama.”

A third, meanwhile, was unhappy with the lack of action, adding: “Well, two advert breaks and hardly any action. Maybe they should have called this ‘Trigger Bore’ instead.”

The hotly anticipated six-part series – Jed Mercurio’s first since Line of Duty last year – looks to give viewers an insight into the heart-stopping world of counter-terrorism policing.

Ditching her bra and foundation for the role, Vicky said she wanted to make a statement that “you don’t really need makeup” while playing her new character.

“I think it’s important to strip things back and be comfortable,” said the 38-year-old.

“I mean, my body isn’t fully toned – people will see the real Vicky, as well as Lana – I’m not hiding anything.”

Trigger Point continues next Sunday on ITV at 9pm.
