Early Morning Starts on GMTV May Have Contributed to Disease
TV presenter Fiona Phillips, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's last year, believes that her 15 years of early morning starts on GMTV may have played a role in the development of the disease. Starting her day at 3.30am to front the popular ITV show, Phillips wonders if the lack of sleep and disrupted circadian rhythm could have been a contributing factor.
Hopeful Signs from Clinical Trial
Phillips is currently participating in a clinical trial for a new Alzheimer's treatment and says that the signs are positive. The trial involves a new drug and a placebo, and she is unsure which one she is receiving. However, during her six-month check-up, cognitive tests indicated that her brain function remained stable compared to the previous year, giving her hope that the drug is working to slow down the progression of the disease.
Staying Positive and Focused on the Future
Despite the devastating diagnosis, Fiona Phillips is determined to stay positive and continue living her life to the fullest. She refuses to give Alzheimer's any space in her life and has many things she still wants to accomplish. With the support of her husband and two sons, who have been incredibly understanding and affectionate since her diagnosis, Phillips is focused on making the most of every day.
