Durham took on Bangor but viewers were distracted by the subtitles on the screen that gave away the answers to the music questions

Durham took on Bangor and viewers were immediately distracted by the subtitles on the screen.

Many said they “ruined” the show by giving away the answers to those watching at home.

Taking to Twitter to share their frustration, one wrote: “Catching up on. Disappointed to see the subtitles giving away the music answers…”

Another sarcastically added: “Gotta love subtitles!”

A third complained: “God I hate it when the subtitles give away the answers in University Challenge music rounds.”

A fourth raged: “I knew all three answers due to the fact that I’m watching University Challenge with subtitles on!”

“The subtitles on University Challenge very kindly told me it was The Rite Of Spring before the music even started …”

In the end of the episode The university of Durham ended up winning 340 points which meant they were through to the final as Bangor only got 35.

Jeremy told the students from Bangor university: “Well at least you got to the final.”

He then turned to Durham and said that 240 is a “terrific” score, and that he looks forward to seeing the students in the quarter finals.

University Challenge airs Mondays at 8.30pm on BBC Two.
