Vampire drama True Blood is resurrected for reboot by Riverdale boss – and fans are furious

VAMPIRE drama True Blood is being resurrected for a reboot by Riverdale’s boss – and fans are furious.

TV Line claims the steamy HBO drama – which starred Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer – is being revived by Riverdale’s creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

True Blood is being rebooted for HBO according to reports

The original show ran from 2008 to 2015 across seven seasons before it was cancelled.

It followed a telepathic waitress who fell in love with a 173-year-old vampire two years after a synthetic blood product allowed vampires to let their presence be known to mankind and live among them.

The outlet added that Roberto will act as an executive producer on the reboot alongside the show’s original creator, Alan Ball.

While the show was still popular at the time it was cancelled, fans are not happy at the prospect of it returning.

One wrote on Twitter: “True blood reboot? What’s else is there to the story ?”

Another tweeted: “True blood reboot from riverdale creator… This will be even worse than the last show and that turned into a parody.”

A third added: “Dear #hbomax we DO NOT need a True Blood Reboot! No one asked for this, it was fine as it was, especially with the late Nelson Ellis. ESPECIALLY when you can tap into L.A. Banks Vampire Series!”

Meanwhile a fourth agreed, writing: “@HBO Seriously? You can’t just make something new? A True Blood reboot??? There are NO OTHER Urban Fantasy series you could develop? Not interested in taking risks or giving ppl original entertainment? WTF.”

At the time of its cancellation, HBO programming boss Michael Lombardo said: “Every season we sit down with the creator and say ‘Tell us what the next year will be like.’

“And if there aren’t exciting, unbelievable, undeniable ideas in the coming season, we’re questioning. And I think in the case of True Blood, it just felt like we had reached a place where the storytelling was hitting a wall.

“And to stay just because the ratings were strong felt not who we are and we needed, quite honestly, the money and Sunday night space for new shows.”
