Vicky McClure has slammed “rude” Trigger Point critics after fans slammed the finale

The actress played ex-military bomb disposal operative Lana Washington

Some viewers slammed the finale as a “waste of time” because of the “dreadful” bomb twist that aired right at the end of the sixth instalment.

Vicky, 38, who plays protagonist Lana Washington in the show, has taken to Twitter to respond to the negative opinions.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “Ignore the rude comments You were amazing x.”

Vicky definitely put the harsh critics in their place.

The actress replied: “Rude comments are like a cold chocolate brownie…disappointing, still eat it but quickly forgotten.

“Warm chocolate brownies are the best…as are warm comments!”

Many other fans replied to her tweet to praise all the hard working she put into the new series.

One said: “We all loved Trigger Point and are hoping for future series…… there are certain actors/actresses that you see their names and know it’s a must watch….. you are absolutely one of those actresses xxx.”

A second said: “You are a brilliant actress, it was a great series .your always going to get a handful that don’t like something. ignore them.you were great x.”

A third added: “You were effing brilliant Vicky, like out of this world – But please ask them not to make the next series air at 9pm on a Sunday – left me far too wired every week
?
.”

Trigger Point hit our screens in January 2022.

The six-part drama concluded on Sunday when Vicky’s alter-ego Lana finally figured out who was behind the bomb threats of The Crusaders, a white supremacist group.

Despite her grief over her brother Billy, Lana was determined to find out who was responsible for his death and the answer proved to be close to home.

The culprit turned out to be Karl (Warren Brown), Lana’s lover, who revealed he was wearing a bomber vest while in a crowded room of MPs and police.

He then threatened the MP who he claimed had covered up the deaths of a number of British soldiers.

Karl was then shot by a police officer before Lana was able to stop the bomb from going off.

The show has been renewed for a second season.

Nearly 11 million viewers have watched the first episode and the series is currently averaging 9.24 million viewers for episodes one to four.

Head of ITV Drama, Polly Hill commented: “I am so delighted to see Trigger Point return.

“Vicky is stunning as Lana and it’s brilliantly produced by Jed [Mercurio] and HTM, but I also want to congratulate Daniel [Brierley] for his scripts.

“To have held the audience in a state of tension for 6 hours so brilliantly, you can’t believe it’s his first show.

“I can’t wait to see where series two takes Lana and her team.”
