THE final episode of Love Island’s seventh instalment is airing on August 23, 2021, on ITV2.
With the show being the perfect platform to launch aspiring reality stars’ careers, do the islanders earn anything for their appearance? And how much is the prize money?
What do the Love Island winners get?
Love Island 2021 is coming to the end with four remaining couples (Kaz and Tyler, Chloe and Toby, Faye and Teddy as well as Millie and Liam) battling it out in the final to be crowned this years winner.
The winning couple is awarded £50,000 which they can either steal for themselves or share with their partner.
On top of this cash prize, winners can go on to have lucrative careers. Since 2015 the couple have always split the money between them.
Although they have recently split, he winning couple from Love Island 2019 Amber Gill and Greg O’ Shea have both continued on their rise to stardom.
Amber launched a clothing line with MissPap reportedly signing a £1 million deal.
Speaking to The Celeb Report, she admitted: “I always told my family I’d be a millionaire and now I am.”
Greg appeared on RTE One’s Late Late Show and is currently training for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Other previous winners have gone on to host various TV shows, appear on Dancing On Ice, star in the West End and go on to release a chart topping single.
As for Love Island 2020 winners Paige Turley and Finn Tapp, both have become very popular on social media, particularly after announcing they were still going strong.
Since their big win, the pair have gone on to move in together in Scotland, during lockdown in 2020. They then relocated to Manchester.
Do the Love Islanders receive a salary?
Much like other previous contestants of the reality dating show, the stars of Love Island 2021 are said to have been paid £250 a week for appearing on the show.
The stars don’t get paid to star on the show- the amount they receive is paid by ITV to compensate them for their time on the show.
The fee covers their bills, their rent as well as other general costs they usually have to cover back home.
The winners strive to win the £50,000 prize and contestants can hope to rake in more from building their profile after the show.
How much can they go on to earn after the show?
While the £50,000 jackpot is a priority for contestants (as well as finding their other half), the islanders can expect to earn a good sum of money after leaving the villa, even if they don’t go back home with the prize.
Former islanders have made a healthy amount of money through sponsorships and brand deals.
Speaking to website entertainment.ie, celeb agent Matt Nicholls – who has taken his fair share of islanders under his wing – has previously said that this all depends on a contestant’s air time.
“The longer you stay in the show, the more time you have for the audience to get to know you and to build those all-important Instagram numbers.”
He even gave an approximate figure: “The greater the following, the more potential customers and the greater fees can be commanded for endorsements such as eponymous fast-fashion clothing ranges as well as for one-off paid posts. I would fully expect the most popular Love Islanders to each make £1 million in the 12 months after the show.”
