What happened to Tommy Duckworth on Corrie?

The character was portrayed on our screens by three different actors from his birth until his adult age.

Thomas “Tommy” Duckworth first appeared in Weatherfield on the day of his birth, September 9, 1992.

He was the grandson of Vera and Jack Duckworth and was sold to his late mother Lisa’s parents Jeff and Doreen Horton by his father Terry when he was a year old.

At the time of his birth, Terry was in Strangeways Jail for grievous bodily harm, leaving Jack and Vera to look after him once Lisa was killed in a road traffic accident.

Tommy was mostly raised by his mother’s side of the family in Blackpool, although the Duckworths paid him frequent visits.

These always excluded Terry, who never showed any interest in his son.

At the age of eighteen, in 2011, Tommy was estranged from the Hortons and, after some sporadic appearances in the Street during his childhood, moved in with Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), who once was his grandparents’ lodger.

Tommy slowly built a life for himself in Weatherfield, becoming a valet and then a mechanic at Websters’ Auto Centre.

Like many other hunks before and after him, Tommy had an eye for the ladies but mostly set his sights on Rovers barmaid Tina McIntyre.

The pair had a tumultuous, on-off relationship as Tommy often clashed with his father Terry and loan shark Rick Neelan.

Things were made even rockier by Tina’s decision to be a surrogate for former Corrie couple Gary Windass and Izzy Armstrong.

The final straw for Tommy came in 2013, when Tina allowed her former boyfriend David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) to stay at their flat after he was kicked out by his family.

Tommy packed his bags and left Weatherfield for good, heading off to the Canary Islands.

Tina was hoping for a reconciliation after he had calmed down but, instead, Tommy called it quits after several weeks.

He hasn’t been heard from ever since.

While all are memorable, ITV viewers may mainly recall Chris Fountain slipping into the heartthrob’s shoes from 2011 to 2013.

Hailing from the West Yorkshire city of Bradford, is an experienced TV actor.

He first came to prominence in 2003, when he was given the role of Justin Burton in Hollyoaks right after a brief stint in Emmerdale as Damien Jones the year before.

Chris left the eponymous Channel 4 village six years later amid a joint exit storyline with Jamie Lomas aka Warren Fox.

His TV credits also include Just The Two Of Us, Casualty and Dancing On Ice.

Some viewers may remember that his time in Coronation Street was cut short when a video of him rapping about rape under the alter ego The Phantom resurfaced.

Chris apologised for the clip, which had been recorded years prior, but was still sacked.

After appearing in the ITV series Girlfriends in 2018, Chris has kept a low profile.

Four years after vanishing from our screens altogether, he revealed through a post on social media that he had suffered a transient ischemic attack in August, 2022.

He told his followers he was undergoing treatment at the Royal London Hospital.
