Emily Kirk later became a vicar.
Who was Emily Kirk in Emmerdale?
Emily was a young, nervous and naive girl who lived a sheltered life with her father John.
She lacked social skills until she took a job at the post office.
Initially, Emily was draw to Butch Dingle but had to cope with her father’s disapproval.
After an altercation, John refused to let Butch see Emily leading to a car chase which led to John flipping his Land Rover.
Butch saved Emily and John before the car exploded.
He was later injured in a bus crash and passed away in the hospital, but not before the pair tied the knot in the ward.
What happened to Emily in Emmerdale?
Emily later developed a relationship with Paddy Dingle and they got married in a surprise wedding after their friends Marlon and Tricia called off their nuptials.
The couple later fostered Debbie Jones, who was Charity and Cain Dingle’s daughter.
Later, after her relationship with Paddy ended, Emily decided to leave the village.
However, Daz Eden begged her to help Debbie who was giving birth.
After arriving, Debbie’s baby was in a bad way but Emily’s quick thinking saved the baby’s life.
Debbie named the baby Sarah and Emily stayed in the village.
However, Debbie left the childcare to Emily as she was unable to cope but Cain accused her of interfering.
Debbie decided she didn’t want to be a mother and begged Emily to take Sarah with her when she left the village, and although Cain tracked them down to Ireland he was unable to find her.
What happened between Paddy and Emily?
Paddy had an affair with Viv, after their relationship became strained.
Emily later discovered the affair and threw Paddy out of the house, destroying their home and the smashing up the post office.
Why did Emily leave Emmerdale?
After a year, Emily returned to the village and gave Sarah to her father, Andy Sugden.
His sister Victoria noticed Emily living in her old house and branded her a child-snatcher, leading to her being ignored by the village for months.
Emily tried to end her life but was saved by her former brother-in-law Sam Dingle.
Sam developed romantic feelings for her but she didn’t feel the same way.
She made a romantic advance towards Ashley Thomas.
His wife Laurel Thomas then tried to set her up with Bishop George Postlewaite who helped her discover she wanted to become a vicar.
Emily then said goodbye to her family and friends and left the village for Manchester.
She briefly returned for Paul Lambert and Jenny Foster’s commitment ceremony.
