What happened to Steph in Emmerdale?

Steph Stokes, the Queen of Mean, made quite an impact during her time on Emmerdale. With her strong cockney accent, she certainly stood out in the Dales. Let's take a look at what happened to Steph and where she is now.

Ex-con Steph Stokes

Steph Stokes arrived in Emmerdale in 2002, ready to cause trouble. She quickly established herself as the Dales' Queen of Mean by getting involved with daughter Tricia's boyfriends. But her antics didn't stop there.

She tried to steal Rodney Blackstock's priceless ornament and his heart, only to leave him when she realized he wasn't wealthy enough for her. Steph even pushed her own dad Alan down the stairs. However, she was ultimately jailed for her brother's murder, even though she didn't commit the crime.

Adam Forsythe was the true killer, but Steph helped cover up the evidence. The last time we saw Steph on Emmerdale was in 2013, when she was granted compassionate leave from prison to attend her dad's funeral. As of now, she remains behind bars, serving time for a murder she didn't commit.

The actress behind Steph

Steph was portrayed by actress and former model Lorraine Chase. Born in South East London on July 16, 1951, she rose to fame in the 1970s through her appearances in the iconic Campari television adverts. Lorraine joined Emmerdale in 2002 and played the role for four years before briefly reprising it in 2013.

When Lorraine decided to leave the show, she stated, "I have decided to leave Steph to her fate and re-unite with friends and family and get a life." The series producer at the time, Kathleen Beedles, expressed regret at Lorraine's departure but promised an exciting storyline for her character.

From Emmerdale to other shows

Following her success in TV advertising, Lorraine Chase appeared on Blankety Blank starting in 1979. In 1980, she starred in the children's TV program Worzel Gummidge alongside Una Stubbs. Lorraine also participated in I'm A Celebrity in 2011, spending 15 days in the ITV jungle. Additionally, she competed in a soap special of Channel 4's Come Dine with Me.

Notably, Lorraine had a starring role in Holby City, further showcasing her acting skills beyond Emmerdale.
