Cobra Kai season three will be available from Janaury 1 2021

When is Cobra Kai’s season 3 coming out?

Cobra Kai Season 3 arrives on Netflix on January 1.

It will launch on the platform at 8am UK time.

The show was originally meant to launch on January 8, but it was brought forward by a week.

The official Cobra Kai Twitter page announced the news.

Cobra Kai is now owned by Netflix

Show star Johnny Lawrence wrote: “QUIET! I heard you all whining about season 3 taking forever. So I called the pawn shop and the guy walked me through this Netflix thing.

“Dude knows his stuff. Now you get it a week early. See you Jan 1, nerds – Johnny Lawrence”.

What will happen in the new season?

The show started its life on YouTube, but made the switch to Netflix when it proved popular with viewers.

Now, Netflix has taken full control of the franchise for the third season – and the budget has been increased, so we can expect even more action and adventure.

In Cobra Kai season 2, tensions between the students of the Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do dojos finally exploded into all-out war with devastating consequences.

Miguel was left in a coma after being thrown off a railing and Daniel and Johnny realised they had failed their students.

All the actors from Cobra Kai season 2 are expected to return for the third season

In season three, we see Daniel and Johnny team up to track down Miguel’s attacker.

Daniel will also head to Okinawa, Mr. Miyagi’s hometown, seeking guidance in a storyline which will be familiar to those who have seen Karate Kid: Part II.

To the delight of old-school Cobra Kai fans, season three features revivals of familiar faces from the 1984 film including Johnny’s mentor John Kreese, played by Martin Kove.

All of the actors from Cobra Kai season 2 are expected to return for the third season.

Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, and Jacob Bertrand will feature in the new installation.

Cobra Kai has also been renewed for Season 4

Will there be a season 4?

Fans will be pleased to hear that Cobra Kai has been renewed for Season 4 ahead of Season 3’s debut.

Co-creator Jon Hurwitz said: “Season 4 is fully mapped out. We have plans beyond that.

“We haven’t had firm discussions with Netflix as to when the series will end but we have expressed that if on their end there is a period of time where they’re like ‘It’s about enough of this Cobra Kai business,’ to give us a heads up so that we can wrap things up appropriately.

“I think we’re going to have the right amount of runway to get it done in a way that’s going to be fulfilling for fans and leave the characters in a place that’s a fulfilling close to the story with potential for more stories down the road.”

He said: “From the beginning, we’ve known where we’d like to end things in Cobra Kai. In terms of the number of seasons we’ve never had that specifically nailed down.

Some of season 3 was filmed in Japan

We always talk about when we were writing Season 1 we had all these ideas on the whiteboard, and then you realize, okay, I only have five hours of time and these 30-minute episodes to basically tell the story.

“Certain things that you wanted to do in Season 1 don’t get to happen until Season 2, Season 3, or still haven’t happened yet.”

So luckily for Cobra Kai fans – the series won’t be ending anytime soon!
