When will Death In Paradise series 10 be on BBC One?

Good news for fans of the sun, sea, and sin series – it’s going to be back for a tenth time.

And there’s not long to wait, as the first episode will air on Thursday 7 January at 9pm, and every Thursday thereafter.

Death In Paradise was filmed in Guadeloupe in May 2020, and miraculously managed to dodge Covid restrictions.

Who will be in the cast for series ten?

Only Elizabeth Bourgine and Don Warrington have featured in every season of Death In Paradise so far.

And there’s no reason to suggest they will be missing from the tenth series.

They play Catherine Bordey, the island’s mayor, and Selwyn Patterson, Police Commissioner.

Danny John Jules, who played Officer Dwayne Myers from the very first episode, exited after series seven.

Ralf Little replaced Ardal O’Hanlon‘s DI Jack Mooney, who himself took over from DI Humphrey Goodman, played by Kris Marshall.

Ben Miller was the first to play the island detective, but DI Richard Poole was killed off at the beginning of season three with DI Goodman called in to solve the case.

So here’s who’s left in the show:

Well, it looks like DI Parker is here to say as the allergy-sufferer turned up at Catherine’s bar instead of flying home to Manchester.

The final episode of series nine saw the insect-bite ridden DI make a 360° turn and decide to remain on the island.

He asked his team: “I’d love to be your DI permanently… if you’d have me.” And of course they all said YES – much to the disgust of the commissioner, who’s not his biggest fan.

The Royle Family and Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet of Crisps actor joined the show during series nine, taking over from Ardal O’Hanlon.

Ralf told the Express he loved every minute.

He said:  “I think I started to annoy everyone with my relentless positivity because I just loved it. “I have no cynicism about the whole thing. “It was everything that I hoped and dreamed it would be.”

Josephine Jobert is returning for season 10

Josephine Jobert as DS Florence Cassell

Actress Josephine made her debut on the show in 2015, but left after series eight after her fiance’s death.

The new series will see her strike up a relationship with Neville.

Elizabeth Bourgine

The actress plays Catherine Bordey, a Frenchwoman who has spent must of her adult life in Saint Marie and runs a popular beach-front bar in Honoré.

In France, the actress is best known for Private Lessons (Cours privé), A Heart in Winter (Un cœur en hiver), and My Best Friend (Mon meilleur ami).

Tobi Bakare as Officer JP Hooper

Series nine ended with the police officer passing his sergeant’s exam – so we’re bound to see more of his journey in series 10.

We also know that his wife Rosey is pregnant, so there’s a baby Hooper -well actually two – on the way.

Don Warrington

The actor stars on the show as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson.

Don, OBE, is a stage and screen actor who burst on to the scene as Philip in the seventies TV series Rising Damp.

Since then, his credits have included C.A.T.S. Eyes, To Play the King, Hamlet and Henry IX.

What will series 10 be about?

Of course, series 10 will feature a string of murders – from a local journalist found dead in her pool to a murdered lottery winner.

And the new season seems to have romance in store, as DS Cassell returns to our screens.

A synopsis for the series reveals a bit more about what fans can expect from the pair’s relationship.

It reads: “Florence thinks she’s ready to get back to work after her fiancé’s death two years ago – but she hasn’t banked on her new boss, Neville.

“As she tries to understand his peculiarities, sparks are bound to fly… Neville soon realises he is existing in the Caribbean, rather than embracing life there.

“With Florence’s help, he determines to seize the day and finds himself starting to reveal some of his secrets – including of a romantic nature.

“But is Neville really built for a life in the tropics? And is a romantic relationship ever going to be possible for him?”
