When is Ridley Road released on BBC?

BBC One’s latest drama Ridley Road will soon be available to watch on TV and as a box set on BBC iPlayer.

The new, chilling drama, although fictional, will illustrate the real-life events and reality of anti-Semitism that took place in London in the 1960s.

When is Ridley Road released on BBC?

Ridley Road is set to be released on October 3, 2021.

The new drama was written by Sarah Solemani as a screen adaptation of Jo Bloom’s novel of the same name.

The four-part drama follows the life of a hairdresser, Vivien Epstein, after she moves from Manchester to London following her dad’s death.

Who’s in the Ridley Road cast?

The talented cast consists of a handful of exceptional actors.

Ex-EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite will be seen portraying the character of Barbara Watson alongside fellow Enders actress Tracy-Ann Oberman as Nancy Malinovsky. 

Eddie Marsan, 53, will be portraying Soly Malinovsky.

Colin Jordan, a real-life neo-Nazi figure, will be played by Rory Kinnear who starred in both the Spectre and Skyfall movies.

However, the central character, Vivien Epstein, is played by newcomer Agnes O’Casey.

Where was Ridley Road filmed?

Ridley Road was filmed in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, Tib Street and Stamford Street in Ashton-under-Lyne in Tameside which is in Greater Manchester. 

The location is a well-known area in Manchester and was designed to mimic the 1960s aesthetic of Dalston, London.

What is Ridley Road about?

Ridley Road is a drama set in the area of Dalston in 1962.

Vivien Epstein, a 20-year-old Jewish hairdresser finds herself in a sticky situation after she decides to go undercover in an underground far-right movement. 

The plot explores the extent of violence and unrest bestowed upon Jews following WWII by deplorable white nationalists.

As more and more brutal anti-Semitic rallies began taking place in the Jewish community, the brave, young hairdressers becomes an unexpected hero when she infiltrates the neo-Nazi meetings by disguising herself in a glossy, blonde wig.

Viewers will also get a glimpse into the intimate relationship between Vivien and her long-lost lover, Jack Morris.

The lead character, Agnes O’Casey will be making a remarkable entrance into the limelight with this heartfelt story as this will be her very first role on screen.

The moving show will seem the drive on the part of Ridley Road’s fearless anti-fascist movement – the 62 Group.
