According to Parade magazine and actress Zooey Deschanel — who is one of the show’s new hosts — the filming was very strict due to the pandemic.

“We basically had to be COVID tested every single day. There’s so much security on the lot,” Deschanel said.

“Everyone gets temperature checked every day and COVID tested every day. It was a lot of jumping through hoops, but it was worth it because I felt safe,”

“We also had to keep our masks on all the time. Everyone had to keep masks and face shields on if you weren’t on camera. It was locked up pretty tight.”

The Celebrity Dating Game centers around a bachelorette who questions three bachelors who are hidden from her view.

The idea is to learn more about their personality and not base a dating decision on looks. 

At the end of the questioning period, she would choose one to accompany her on a date. 

The roles also reverse and a man can question three women and pick one to date after the questions are over.

Bachelorette star Hannah Brown and Nailed It! host Nicole Byer appeared in the first episode of the show.

The celebrities’ identities are kept secret from their admirers until the potential pair meet.

Contestants are given clues in the form of songs, which are performed by singer Michael Bolton.

Some viewers did not enjoy the show’s debut and branded it as “embarrassing” with one tweeting: “#ABC has hit peak cringe with #CelebrityDatingGame. I’m actually embarrassed for everyone involved.”

Another replied: “I knew it would bad, but THIS bad? What the hell is Zoe [sic] doing?

“Was there a meeting where someone said ‘don’t worry Zoe [sic], that’s what they said about Masked Singer, and look what happened with that!'”
