Where are the cast of Noel Clarke’s Kidulthood 15 years on? From Hollywood stardom to working in prisons

KIDULTHOOD marked its 15th anniversary this year – but a lot has changed for the cast since the 2006 release.

While some of them have continued with Hollywood careers and starred on the silver screen, not everyone has continued a star-studded life in the spotlight.

Kidulthood was directed by Noel Clarke

Screen writer Noel Clarke hit the headlines this week following serious accusations of verbal abuse, bullying and sexual harassment.

The 45-year-old actor, who was recently celebrated for his Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema, had his award suspended by BAFTA.

And while his name remains in focus under investigation of the claims made by 20 women, it’s had us wondering where the remaining cast went.

Here we take a look back at some of the film’s stars and see what they are up to now, from Hollywood red carpets to working in prisons.

Noel wrote Kidulthood early in his career in 2006

Noel Clarke

Noel Clarke was born in December 1975 to immigrant parents from Trinidad and was brought up by his mum on a council estate in London.

He attended the University of North London before taking acting classes at London’s Actros Centre to hone his talent before starting out on Doctor Who as Mickey Ambrose in 2005.

The star remained on the BBC One show while writing Kidulthood, released in 2006, and went on to direct and star in the sequel, Adulthood, which was released in 2008.

In 2009, Clarke was awarded BAFTA’s Orange Rising Star award, leading to further film and TV appearances across the globe including 4.3.2.1 and Star Trek: Into Darkness.

The star has been accused of sexual harassment and serious misconduct

In 2016, he wrote, directed, and starred in Brotherhood, the final instalment of the Kidulthood series, which earned the box office £1.98m in its opening week.

Taking a back seat from the limelight in recent years, the actor focused on raising his three children alongside wife Iris in their London home.

But Clarke hit the headlines again earlier this week as an investigation by The Guardian revealed there were several allegations of harassment against him.

Twenty women who have worked professionally with Clarke have accused him of unwanted touching or groping, sexually inappropriate behaviour and comments on set.

BAFTA has stripped the stars’ awards following the allegations

Allegations also include professional misconduct, taking and sharing sexually explicit pictures and videos without consent, and bullying between 2004 and 2019.

Clarke has since responded in a statement that read: “In a 20-year career, I have put inclusivity and diversity at the forefront of my work and never had a complaint made against me.

“If anyone who has worked with me has ever felt uncomfortable or disrespected, I sincerely apologise. I vehemently deny any sexual misconduct or wrongdoing and intend to defend myself against these false allegations.”

BAFTA have also commented, stating: “We have immediately suspended the award and Noel Clarke’s membership of Bafta until further notice.”

Aml Ameen

One of Kidulthood’s leading men, Aml’s career has been full of just as many unpredictable pathways as he faced playing Trife in the film.

He has appeared in a range of different British TV staples including The Bill and Silent Witness, as well as blockbuster films The Bulter and Maze Runner.

Ameen even made it across the pond, more recently starring in Netflix series Sense 8 and Michael Coel’s series I May Destroy You.

The star has plenty on the way for 2021, as he is due to star in and direct Boxing Day, the UK’s first all-Black cast holiday film.

He will lead cast members including Murder’s Aja Naomi King and Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

Adam Deacon

Adam’s life has been through plenty of trials and tribulations since starring as Jay in the Clarke-directed film.

In 2012, he was at the centre of a press frenzy as he beat Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston to BAFTA’s Rising Star award.

Already having an established career in music, Adam director and starred in Kidulthood parody Anuvahood, as well as more serious roles in films Victim, Outside Bet and Montana.

More recently, Adam starred in seven episodes of Channel 4’s outstanding drama Babylon, which aired in 2014.

Sadly, the 38-year-old saw his career derailed as he ran into legal troubles and struggled with his mental health – battling against his former friend Noel in a harassment case in court.

Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, he was arrested again in 2016 after wielding a machete style knife and was sent to a treatment centre to receive help with his mental wellbeing.

After years out of the limelight, Adam is now rebuilding his career with roles in indie films including The Intent 2: The Come Up And Rouge.

The work is due to continue for the 35-year-old in 2021, after starring in Sky One sitcom After Hours and E4’s Dead Set.

Jamie already has her name lined up for A Brixton Tale, No Dog and The Barking Murders.

He made a step into the world of directing in 2013 with his comedy It’s A Lot, and went on to write The Intent, where he cast pal Adam Deacon.

Outside of his acting work, the star prides himself on hosting workshops for people in Young Offenders Institutions, frequently visiting prisons.

In 2014, Oyeniran delivered a TEDxParliament Talk on the subject and sat sat in as Speaker of the House of Commons’ Commission on Digital Democracy.

Rafe’s career has gone from strength to strength

Rafe Spall

After playing Lenny in the iconic film, Rafe’s career has gone from strength to strength as he now stars in huge blockbuster movies.

The 38-year-old already had foundations in his career when appearing in Kidulthood, thanks to his father being British actor Timothy Spall.

He has starred in TV series like Black Mirror, as well as films including Prometheus, Life of Pi and The Big Short.

Spall also starred more recently alongside Michael B Jordan and Jamie Foxx in emotional courtroom drama Just Mercy, released in 2019.

Nicholas continues to act on the silver screen

Nicholas Hoult

Nicholas was already a child star before joining the case of Kidulthood, acting alongside Hugh Grant in 2002 film About A Boy.

But the film made a turning point in his career as she began to take on edgier roles, including Tony in the E4 drama Skins.

The 31-year-old actor continues to rise to success as he got involved with the X-men franchise, playing Beast in five separate films.

He also went on to star in Mad Max Fury Road in 2015 and Tolkein in 2019 – with a role in Mission Impossible 7 upcoming in 2022.

In 2018, the star also welcomed his first baby with his model girlfriend, as has taken time to focus on being a dad.
